Need Abs Computer

Vehicle is a 2000 Suburban 2500 6.0 4x4, 3.73 gears, new reman'd GM transmission.

 

Recently the abs and dash brake lights come on randomly, sometimes at startup and sometimes riding, but not on all the time. Buddy of mine that works at a shop and has tons of GM training says it's the abs (ecu, ecm?) computer. Fine, he knows his stuff, but the part is $900 from GM!

 

So, I've been searching for a used one, but I don't know how to tell if one is gonna work? Buddy is telling me that sometimes running the VIN it may even show a couple of different part numbers for these for the vehicle.

 

So, how can I tell if I buy a used one-am I just taking a chance on whether or not it will work?

Yep, mine started doing the same thing and I said the hell with ABS. Crawled under the truck and unplugged the power connector to the EBCM. And that left the ABS light only on the dash, so I took apart the cluster and pull up the black background and put tape under it. So now there's no light and you can't tell it's been covered up just looking at it.

If $900 is my only option, that's what I'll be doing to. I can't believe that part costs so much, that's just outrageous.

I've been to the 2 websites above, module master says only one of the 3kinds is repairable, but absfixer doesn't say that, just says send it in. I have yet to figure out what model unit I have, but I'm wondering if absfixer can fix any of the 3?
