Tires Not Mounted Properly At Dealership

:jester: Brought the truck in for it's regular maintenance and while it was there, they rotated the tires.

Getting ready for a road trip this week, I checked the tire pressure in the trailer, and checked the truck anyways just in case.

Well.....the tires in front were at 65psi, but should be 70psi. The read tires were a mix of 65psi and 70psi. And the rear wheels were not aligned properly so that you can't get access to the inner tire valve stem (the truck is a dually).

This tells me they rotated the tires, didn't bother to check the tire pressures.

Needless to say, I was a bit ticked.

Just spoke to the service manager, the truck is going back in tonight to have the tires done properly. I was going to do it myself, but since I've paid for the service, they should do it.

Perhaps I'm just being fussy, but an 8000lb truck, I perfer it done right.

I agree with you. You paid a professional and should get a professional job.

If it was a buddy's garage and doing it for beer money, that's another story.

I agree, make the dealer do it right. You are paying professionals rates but they are letting amateurs work on it. If they charge high dollar labor rates, better be a ASE tech do the !@#$%^&* work.

Yep, you did the right thing. You probably taught them a lesson as they probably didn't know that the backs should be in a certain aligned position for valve stem access. Probably didn't even think about it.

I have to ask....where did you take the truck.....want to make sure I don't go there now....You still working or are you planning the trip??

I took the truck to the only 'authorized' GM dealership in Orleans. And this is the same dealership that does the yearly commercial inspection on my truck. Oh the irony.

Outside of car dealerships, you'd be amazed how many "businesses" are run just like you stated.

You should always expect that the work will be done right ... whether at a dealer or an independent garage, whether you pay through the nose or you get a good deal ... the expectation should always be to get the job done right...

.. this is just a case of poor (... or non-existent) Quality Control, annoying, but at least they will take it back in and remedy the problem ... I always consider that the true test .. if they will fix it after you point out the problem...

Got the truck back today from the dealership, tires mounted properly this time.

I even had to show the service guy (the guy at the counter who inputs the info) on how tires on dually's need to be mounted.

Nonetheless, it's now done right. Now I can focus on my upcoming road trip down East.

I have found that it is rare to have a service writer ( I think that is what they are called) that actually knows what is required or how something needs to be fixed.... unless the shop is small enough and tries to provide personalized service... then you might actually be able to talk to the shop owner/manager or they might call a trained tech or mechanic to come out and talk to you...
