Steering Wheel Vibration

I have a 08 CC 2500HD Z71 with 11k on it. Recently I have been feeling a slight vibration through the steering wheel and it is not constant. It can be at any speed and even on smooth surfaces and seems to occur when the suspension is slightly moving. I've lowered the air pressure in the front but it didn't make a difference. The dealership looked at it and said all is in perfect order but I know that is not the case. I have driven an identical truck and didn't feel the vibration. I jacked up the truck and all the steering components seem to be tight. The vibration feels like something in the steering line is slightly loose, but I can't figure out what it is. Is it possible one of the shocks has a dead spot? Any ideas? Thanks, Dave

It's you feel it under braking it's your rotors and having them resurfaced should fix it. If not then sound like one of your tires is out of balanced. Plus the stock tires are not the best. HTH.

The problem is hard to describe. It is like an intermittent rattle that I can feel through the steering wheel.

Just out of curiosity is this vibration accompanied by a clunking sound? It will prolly only happen over bumps or turning. If so it may be your intermediate steering shaft. This was a big problem with the 1999-2007 trucks

No clunk, just an annoying rattle feeling most noticible at slower speeds through the steering wheel.

Yes it sounds like you tossed a couple weights off your tires go get them balanced

F.Y.I,

I just read a TSB on 08 SUV's and Trucks in the fullsize forum. Sounds like some of the issues your having. At best you might get GM to resurface your roters and new pads, at worst you might get at least one.

I have a 2010 and noticed the same thing as you described shortly after i bought it. I asked the dealer about it and of course everything checked out fine and they told me they fixed the problem they had with the old shafts. Not being satisfied i greased the shaft just like i had to on my '06 and the slight clunk/vibration went away. The only difference i see in the shafts is the internal splines are a nylon or plastic instead of steel to steel splines. I can't believe GM can't come up with a better setup. It makes a 40,000 dollar truck feel pretty cheap when you drive it.
