You can buy different colored emblems, or get vinyl overlays I believe, but id say the majority of the guys here mask off the emblems and paint them/clear coat them themselves. That is probably what I'll be doing with my tailgate GMC emblem (if i don't debadge it :fume: )

Check out this link here.

I know someone did a write up on removing the front bowtie and stripping the finish on the inside to make it clear and then you can paint it. Pretty sure it was someone with a red truck. I am not sure if its on here or another GM site. I cant find it for the life of me. I could use the link for myself as I am looking to color match mine.

Maybe someone can chime in if they have it.

I sanded mine painted the whole thing red, then taped of the outline and then painted it black. So it's now red and black. For that job, I used rust-o-leum gloss red and gloss black.

I can barely see the red outline in the pic, good idea looks good.

That's cause that's .7 mega-pixel pic taken from a plam treo 650 phone. In real life, it's really noticable.

The easiest thing is to stop by a sign shop and get a piece of colored 3M vinyl. All you do is lay it over the entire emblem, press the edges down with your finger then trim it with a razor. I did this to the front and rear emblem on my WT and it looks great, the red sticks out way too much with a black grill.

I wouldn't paint it.

I bought some "carbon fiber" vinyl at Pepboys one day just to see if I could do it myself. I taped it over, cut it out with a razor and kind of curled the edges over into the creases with a heat gun real quick. Actually came out great and hasn't peeled at all through a winter and countless car washes.
