Should I Buy It? 2000 2500hd

Hey guys, this is my first post on here. My name is Jorden and I', looking to get back into a truck after 1 year of riding just a sportbike. I've only ever had GM trucks and can't wait to get back into one!

Trucks I've had: 1996 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 ext. cab short bed. Bought with 315xxx miles sold with 365xxx. Only problem I had with that truck was the radiator and rear brake line went out. Other than that it was a BA truck!

2002 Silverado 1500 Z71 ext. cab short bed 4 dr. Didn't have it very long, sold it for the bike. 2nd Gear went out within the first 300 miles I had it. Bought it with 103xxx sold at 108.

Now I am looking at a 2000 2500HD 4x4 Ext Cab 3 dr long bed. I am going to look at it tomorrow, but I'm driving 2 1/2 hours to go see it in person. I'm using the money I got from my bike to buy this truck. Can't afford a payment, so of course the truck isn't gonna be top of the line brand new.

I am just wondering if I should buy this truck. It has 185xxx miles, only bad I've seen wrong with it in the pictures are the tear in drivers seat, and a couple small dents. Other than that its clean. I noticed it has an 03+ tailgate and tail lights, but the CarFax came out clean, maybe they just wanted a newer look....? Or something happened and they didn't file a claim. But anyways, to the price. I can get this truck for $4750 OTD with TTL included.

Here are some pics, please let me know if I should jump on this or not. Like I said, I am going to personally inspect it tomorrow evening.

My only question would be whether you need the 2500 or not. If you're not towing or hauling very much, it's gonna ride rougher and be thirstier. :fume:

The rear bumper isn't original either. Given that you've mentioned that tailgate/read lights have been changed, I would recommend to check for signs of damage to the back. Might explain why it's all been changed.

Other than that, looks clean for a 2000.

Actually it is an HD, the VIN says so. And I've seen on another thread on here that is just that GM didn't put the HD badge on in 2000 and started doing it in 01.

But yeah, I'm going to look at it in a few hours. If its as decent as the pictures, I'm just gonna have to buy it.

Oh and yeah it is the 6.0L

Yeah the rear bumper is a replacement bumper, which here in Texas is a very popular thing. I will definately be checking out the rear end and ask if they know why its been changed.

And Nick, Yes, I will be hauling some stuff shortly. I am going to be starting my own business here in a month or two and will need a truck. Maybe not a 2500, but its always nice to have the power! Rather have it, incase I need it, than need it and not have it. Atleast thats what I tell myself! lol

while that says HD it it by no means the same truck as a 2001HD just visually alone the actual 01HD has a larger exhaust that exits on an angle and a risen up hood

While I agree with you on the differences, it still doesn't mean its not an HD for the year 2000. I wasn't comparing the 00 to the 01, other than the fact it just doesn't have the HD badge.

You're right, that's the HD for that year. But I can show you the bigger chassis, exhaust, and axle under the 2500hd of 2001. The grille is also HD in 2001. Yours will have a SF axle instead of a FF like the 2500hd. But still, it's a good deal.

Do you know how long these 6.0L run for? I've only ever had the 5.7 and 5.3. Don't know much about the 6.0.

The 6.0l is the same engine as the 5.3 with a bigger bore. They'll last just as long as a 5.3, which is forever.
