Leave Truck Running

Recommended Posts

I have a need to leave my Yukon running as I travel with my dog a great deal. I know the remote start, times out after 5 minutes, so that is not an option. I tried leaving the keys in the truck, but it won't let me lock the doors, with the truck running.

Any ideas or suggestions?

You can lock the doors with the truck running,You have to manually lock the driver-side door by pushing the lock knob down (using the door lock switch or fob will unlock it to prevent a lockout situation)

Thanks for the info.

If anyone can figure out how to make the remote start last longer then 5 minutes, that would be great as the key won't be in the ingnition, but it will work for now.

The factory remote start is actually suppose to run for 10 minutes, then you can remote start it for another 10 minutes, for a total of 20 minutes, after that you must insert the key.

We put an aftermarket remote start (Autostart) in her Impala.

It has an option to press the fob while running and you can pull the key.

I let my truck warm up in the winter. I have a key ring that splits in 2 pieces. One half keys one half has the key fob. Crank the truck shut the door and press the lock button. It worked on my 01 and it works on my 09.

Yes you can do that as well,I didn't mention it because most people do not separate their key and transmitter,I do,but not for that reason....I do it because the damn transmitter keeps hitting the dash and steering column while I'm driving and its annoying as all hell!!

No way, I thought that I was the only one!! I put a thin piece of 3M single sided foam tape on the column to stop the noise.

Same issue, same solution. Tried the foam tape, didn't like the look, so back to the clip key fobs.

On my 09 I used a small strip of black velcro on the steering column...works fine and you cannot see it unless you look for it....showed my dealer friends and they now use it on their 900s

So when is GM going to have the remote built into the key like most cars are nowadays?

I rented a 2010 Equinox a month ago and it had this.

For years, I carry my key fob in one pocket and my ignition key in the other. They are NEVER on the same key ring.

My ignition key is on the same ring as a number of other keys. Whey I play golf, I'll toss the key ring into my golf bag. I, twice, tossed the golf bag into the back seat... locked the door... and went back into the clubhouse to have a 19th Hole soda. It's not a good day when you have to call our wife to bring the extra set of keys to the golf course!!!! By keeping them separated, I always have the key fob available if I do lock the keys in the truck. Just got into that habit and have continued it.

With my 2008, you cannot unlock with the key anyways. You must use the key fob or the alarm horn begins to squawk. Since I can't use the key to unlock, I've gotten in the bad habit of just tossing the keys in the console and using the key fob to re-enter. Again, possible due to having them separated all the time.

Has worked for me. YMMV......
