Am Radio Static/whine

Recommended Posts

I recently installed an Alpine aftermarket HU in my 98 Silverado. I listen to AM radio for sports and have a horrible whining sound. I installed an antenna noise filter and it made the whine turn into static. The static only happens when the vehicle is running. I am thinking I may try a new spot for the radio ground and was wondering if the horizontal metal bar that sits under the dashboard could be used for a grounding point since it is bare metal, and relatively close to the stereo. Any insight would be appreciated.

Most of the static I've heard on AM came from Rush Windbag.

That's always been my experience with AM and cb radios, too. They just pick up electrical interference, period. It's the nature of AM signals.
