Funny Noise From Take Off Once Stopped

I have a 2006 Sierra 1500 4x4 ext cab and recently I have been hearing a funny noise when I take off from stop or very slow under 5mph and give it gas. Its a 'whooop' (forgive me for trying to spell it but its a different kind of noise) and its only when I give it gas. Especially on hills when you are already coasting back so you give it a bit of gas to get going. I thought maybe brakes and I changed them anyways for inspection but still have the noise. It has 54,000 miles, nothing seems loose underneath like a shock bolt or anything.

Its not a horrible loud noise but you can hear it when it happens with the radio turned down. Feels like a pulling noise like something is trying to let go then it does only because I gave it gas. I even coasted to a stop not using my brakes and it gave her gas and it still did it so not brakes. Just wondering if its something anyone has heard of before? Everything else is great on the truck.

Come to think of it, it almost sounds like the noise your locking rear end makes when both tires spin. Maybe its rear end related? I know its a tiny bit low and I have the oil to put in it but I know its not dangerously low. I know the hillside thing makes sense now but I am NOT spinning tire at all. It will do it on the level as well as grades and its not enough power to be skipping then locking up.

Thanks and it does have a locking rear axle.

Have you checked your drive line u-joints? T-case? I wouldn't describe the sound of a locker going "whooop". More like a clunk

The only clunk I get is from my driveshaft and we all know they are known for that...the joints look good, have not checked the T-case...what might be the problem with the Transfer case?

when my locker kicks in on turf or snow, it does not 'clunk' at all. It makes a pulsating noise until I get grip. This is like one single pulsating noise, not many like when you are locking the diff up on wet turf. I only time I hear a clunk is if I hit the 4x4 on while giving it gas...and that does not happen very often.

GM had a problem in early 2000's with the driveshaft splines sticking in the back of the trans or transfer case. It made the same noise as you are describing. Pull the driveshaft, lube splines on output shaft, reinstall.

They also had the leaf springs make a noise between the leaves. Spray water on them( or WD40) to see if this is the problem.

My 06 CC/SSB Z71 does this. I think it's rear end related, either the brakes or the fluid. I used to get the noise a lot changed the rear end fluid and rear shoes/drums and it went away. 45K miles later it's back.

I'd describe mine as a quick squeak, higher pitched. You have to come to a complete stop to get it to do it. I almost at first would wonder if it was a bad bushing and as the axle rotated from torque input it would twist.

Thank you for the help. It probably started around 50,000 miles or so. I will do this and see what happens.
