2010 5.3 Exhaust

Hey I was just wondering. My 2010 silverado with the 5.3 has just on big muffler on it and I was just wondering has anyone just taken this out and made it a straight pipe? So basically you would leave everything the same keep the cats and everything so it wouldnt really be a true straight pipe but that big muffler would be gone and that has to be whats restricting the flow and sound.

the newer trucks really dont sound that bad with no muffler...i ran mine for a while but never had a tailpipe so it got real old in teh cab real fast

I saw one today and sounded like ass. It was raspy and poped a lot

If it sounded raspy and popped a lot, then it probably had true duals with no mufflers or just glass-packs. A single straight pipe will be loud, but it's more of a deeper tone or growl without the cackling.

I just added a raceland electric cutout to my 5.3L exhaust. I placed it where the turndown for the cutout dumps right before the muffler. It has a very good tone to it and I have the ability to close it when on long trips or towing. It was only 108 dollars shipped to my door, stainless steel, all tig-welded. I'm very happy with it.

3 inch version I take it? I would love to do that to my truck actually just for S&G. Have any pictures or videos?

I don't have any pics or video but I'll get on that tonight if I remember. Will post as soon as I have available.

no muffler on mine.... the link is in the sig.

so basically you just cut the mufler out and welded a piece of pipe in or what did u do?

i used a hacksaw (cause my idiot self forgot at the moment that it was stainless... and i don't have a sawzall) took 2 damn hours, then i took it to a muffler shop, they bent up a 3" piece of stainless, welded it on with a hanger. i made sure the suspension was unsprung with a little room for play for off roading.

cost me 60 bucks.

I also have an electric cut-out, although mine is a 06. I love the fact I can have my truck dead silent (stock exhaust) and in seconds have it wide open or anywhere in between.

On my 06 there was like only one spot to put it where there was a section of straight pipe so I had to use this location, the cut-out is 3", here's a few pictures...
