Might be buying one of these for my son for Christmas.  A friend of mine has it and needs to get a bigger one for his kids.  It's a 2000 model.  I know the guy real well and know that he really takes care of his stuff.  The thing still looks almost brand new.  If we do end up getting it, maybe dad can get one soon too.

Good idea Tom! :thumb: He'll love it.

If you get one for yourself I'd suggest a slightly larger model though!!

LOL, yeah.  :thumb:

BTW, that's a 80, which most may have known already.  :)

Friends of mine have that quad for their kids.  Out of all of the other quads that size we've seen, the LT80 is the best quad of its size...hands down.

I currently have a Honda TRX400EX (sport quad).  If you are going this route...I'd recommend it.  You should be able to get one pretty cheap considering all of the other companies have released a new sport quad...or you can get a matching sport quad...the Suzuki Z400 (very nice!)

If you are going the 4x4 route....some people I ride with have the Yamaha Grizzly 660.  VERY SWEET 4x4!  IRS with a full locking front diff with the push of a button.   :thumb:

I had a 125 Quadrunner way back when 4-wheelers were new on the scene.  That had no suspension.  Kids are spoiled these days!

  We had a couple dual range 230 Suzuki's dad bought new back in '86 (I think) that had no rear suspension.     A lot of fun though.  We put many, many miles on those things.  I wanted to get mine once I bought my '91 truck, but dad had sold them becasue they didn't get much use.  :)

If/when I get one, I'd like to get a utility type one, with front and rear racks.  Probably 2wd too, our 230's were 2wd and got me anywhere I wanted to go.  I need to see if I can find a pic of our old ones.

Looks like a great gift Tom,your son is a lucky man.

And I'm sure you'll teach him to ride safe

The first one I ever rode was one of those three wheelers

By the way how do you feel about adopting a 43 year old? :)

I promise to keep my room clean.

...oh yeah, I'll be bringing along my wife and dog if thats o.k.

Great gift, I always wanted one as a kid. Now that I'm older I bought my own. I'm waiting for my son to get a little older and I'm looking at purchasing one for him to ride the woods with his dad. I like the little sportsmans, I'm biased though owning a sportsman myself.

I have a 2002 Kawasaki Bayou 220 for sale if anyone in near WV is interested! $2500

I started out on a Yamaha Moto 80 when I was 4 years old, then moved up to a Honda 200SX when I was 5! Had a couple more in between but now I have a 2001 Kawasaki Prairie 300 2wd! Best ATV I have ever had, havent been too stuck yet, and its hard to get the front off the ground, which I like! It is the most comfortable ATV I have ever ridden and most people who I meet on the trail and let ride it say the same! I recently went to trade it in on a New Prairie 360 4x4 or a Suzuki Eiger 400 4x4, I rode both and wasnt impressed, my Prairie 300 2wd was way more easy to steer and quicker, so I decided to keep it!

Well, it looks like it's going to happen.  He's not ready to get a bigger one for his son and daughter right yet, and since it's going to be a Christmas present for J.T., I'm going t give him half the money in October and half in November, when he'll be ready to get his new one for his kids.  I think J.T. will really be shocked when he gets it because he's mentioned a few times about wanting one, and even said he'd save up some on his allowance and help pay for it, but we always kind of play it off like "maybe someday".  :uhoh:   I'll probably get me one sometime after Christmas so dad can play too.  I loved the ones we had before I joined the Air Force and have been wanting to get another one for quite a few years.

And after 11 1/2 years of owning my OWN truck(s), I can finally justify owning one.  Maybe not though. :nono:

We dropped by my friends house today, and just happen to check out the 4 wheeler.  J.T. rode it for a liitle while, and loved it.  We told him we had to stop by to take something over there, so he doesn't have a clue why we were really there.  As we walked through their garage, the 4 wheeler was the first think he noticed, and told his mom he'd like to have one someday.

Well, here's the one he's getting.  I gave my frined the money for it today, but he's going to keep it at his house because we have no place here to keep it that my son wouldn't find it.  :flag:

Man, I wish Christmas was tomorrow.

    • I would argue that GMPartsDirect has that info wrong.    The service manual for R+R the lower arm and for adjusting camber/caster, none of the steps say to discard and replace the nut or the bolt.    The only part that gets discarded is the plastic cam adjustment retainer that is in the eccentric from the factory.     The LCA nut torque spec is: First Pass: 180 Y (133 lb ft) Final Pass: 90 –105 Degrees
    • The filtering to wear relationship goes like this:      'Relative Engine Life "Factor" new divided by the factor old. So 8/3= 2.67. That result is the multiplier thus if a motor had an effective life of 100K using a filter with a 45 micron rating at a Beta ratio of 75 then a filter with a micron rating of 10 at a Beta of 75 would improve expected engine life to 267,000 miles.    Wear metals are an indirect indicator. Less is better and the motor lives longer but there isn't a multiplier like there is for filtration so well documented. Most of that has to do with the sensitivity of the wear metals tests themselves. They read a 'slice' of the spectrum but not the absolute values for the entire spectrum. So a general indicator that is used WITH the results of other tests. Two others considered in this post. Trending is very important.    There is also the influence of corrosive wear which may be seen in the wear metals but separate from load based or viscosity mitigated indication. It's a small graph but the gray line is wear vs the TBN/TAN crossover. Not as useful as it used to be as there are now new chemistries for acid remediation that don't show up in standard UAO testing. They will catch up or be found liars. Only two possible outcomes, eh?
    • One thing that comes up over and over is that the torque converters are the weak link. Many of the failed transmissions have the same thing in common. The torque converter grenades and then metal torque converter shards end up destroying the transmission. One of the best things you can do is if your transmission is still fully functional, change out to one of the aftermarket billet torque converters. There are several good choices mentioned in different threads here to make your choice. After that, then you can decide about trans tuning. My trans failed at around 95,000 miles. It got replaced under the GM protection plan. The remanufactured trans comes with a 100,000 mile /3 year warranty. I still have just under 1 year left. So far, so good. As long as it's still working good next year, an aftermarket torque converter is going to get installed early spring. If the trans and OEM torque converter fail by then, I will get it replaced under warranty and immediately have an aftermarket torque converter installed. A warranty replacement trans of a replacement trans will no longer have the warranty so I will bulletproof it from the get go.
    • You got'a be cooking right now. Just looked at the weather map. Yuck!    We are right back to $4 today.
    • Pushing $4.00 a gallon in most places, still $3.75 in town but it's going to spike tomorrow for sure.   Diesel back up to $4.60-5.00.
