I Think My Transmission Is Going Out. 2008 Silverado

My truck has 62,000 miles on it and when i take off from a stoplight it slips a little bit. And when i am coming up to a stoplight it will "clunk" as it shifts into first, almost as it goes past 5 mph. I haven't changed the transmission fluid yet but i am early this week. Are these some bad signs of my tranny going out?? thanks

Sweet, good thing you're still under warrenty. :fingersx:

IMO I don't think you are totally over-due for a pan drop/filter change, although that's always good place to start if its never been done.

I did mine at 80,000kms and it seemed like it made a small difference, as it seemed sort of a hard shifter at times. (Or maybe it was all in my head lol!)

The clunk is the slip yoke that needs to be greased. I had the same problem with my truck. I took it to the dealer thinking my trans was going out too but they greased the slip yoke and it was good as new.

X2. That's what it sounds like to me.

IF you do it yourself...It'll take about 20 minutes if you take a beer break.

He said it slips when he takes off and it clunks before he stops though.

Mine will do that too. Just depends on how I'm braking at that particular stop.

just make sure you use a #2 lithium grease that has range from -40 to 400 deg. and just grease the crap out of it

which one of your trucks is doing this? BE MORE SPECIFIC NEXT TIME :D

my 2001 silverado does the clunk when it stops... really annoying and it feels like the trannys gonna blow

If the tranny is slipping, pull the dipstick and check the fluid when its idling and hot. Low fluid level can cause slipping.

When the dipstick is out, rub your fingers on it. A little sludge is ok, bits of crud isn't (that's clutch pack residue). If you smell it, it should have that sweet oil smell. If it smells burnt, then things are slipping in the tranny, causing the fluid to overheat and burn.
