Would You Or Have You Gotten This Service?

dealer is offering a 250-300 dollar cleaning service, from what i understood the fuel rail and injectors are cleaned with some strong solvent along with the throttle body and maf sensor...is this worth it or not?

Hell no.

 

You can clean the MAF and throttle body with a $5 can of B-12 and a few minutes time.

 

The rails/injectors don't get dirty on the inside by any significant measure. If they did, you'd know 100 people that had a clogged injector lean out a hole and pop the motor.

 

Just a money-making scheme in my opinion.

Any other mechanic shop will do the same service for 99-129 dollars. Do you need it......Probably not but that is up to you. Depends on many variables, brand of fuel, fitler changes, in tank cleaners, spray throttle body cleaners, Sea Foam treatments. Above all what is the mileage? I wouldnt do it

110k for miles...just curious it sounded like a waste of money to me but i figured i'd ask

It is wayy cheaper to use fuel system cleaner than to pay dealer for injector cleaning. The only fuel additive approved by GM is Techron Fuel System Treatment Plus available at Wal-Mart or auto parts stores. It'll even fix your gas gage if it is stuck.

Some routine maintenance services are still needed, but in most cases they aren’t, so compare what’s being suggested with what the owner's manual recommends – and possibly avoid spending money on unneeded maintenance.

 

Remember the dealer see's you as a never ending source of revenue for the dealership. Take any advice that will cost you money with that in mind. I have a long time friend who is a small GMC dealer and he once told me if it were not for the service dept, they would never survive just selling vehicles. He has customer who buy new cars/trucks every few years and spend a lot of money changing oil etc on cars they won't keep past 36,000 miles.

It's called a motorvac services, it does some fine detail cleaning that Seafoam and other cleaners won't get. At around 100,000 miles most shops start recommending it. I've known alot of people who have had the service done and it has brought back performance to the vehicle. $300-400 is a bit extreme. The same kind of service can be done by a trusted repair shop for MUCH less.

My shop(used car mechanic) used to do this for 85 dollars.Dealer's rape people at will..Just bought My first new vehicle ever(2010 silverado). got whacked 86 bucks for the 6000 mile oil change and tire rotation. Dealer wouldn't honor the Vet discount and now hosed Me a second time. Shame on Me.
