so i just towed our 36ft camper back home, we just had a new refridgerator put in it, the guy that installed it ran the battery dead. well it has an electric jack..... so no problem just hook it up and wait a sec rite? wrong..... doesnt work. whats up with that? the 2nd week i had my truck i towed an enclosed snowmobile trailer and the lights inside the trailer didnt work.. i didnt think anything of it.. well i guess the two are the same problem. any clue as to whats going on? its the factory towing package.

I would check the fuses. When I picked up my camper last year the brakes were not working and it turned out there wasn't a fuse in there. Strange since my truck came with the hd towing package and integrated break controls.

sorry forgot to say. went threw both fuse boxes twice. i didnt check every single fuse. just the ones i thought could possibly be related to it. but their are a bunch of abbreviations that i dont know what they mean. one of those could be it but idk. but i did check ALOT of them

Isn't there a wire taped up in the engine bay that needs to be connected to the front of the fuse block to get the 12v power at the trailer plug?

i have no idea. hopefully someone here will know more about this.

thats exactly what it is, open your hood, look down at the steering shaft and you'll see a red wire electrical taped to a wiring harness, connect that to the fuse panel under the hood, you'll need to find a nut, i dont remember the threat pitch, SOMETIMES they dont have a fuse installed to make that stud active so you'll need a fuse too. on the right hand side of the fuse box there should be another red wire taped up, that one should be for the brake controller wiring under your dash

Exactly what was said. You are going to need to get those wires out of the wire loom and connect to the posts on the front of the fuse box. You are also going to need a 40amp fuse to get your 12v power. If you look at the lid on your fuse box below the fuse chart, there are the names of what each fuse is for. Match the number from the top chart with the name on the bottom chart and it will tell you what that fuse is for.

I think you will need a 6mm and 8mm nut to attach each wire to the correct post.

connect the wire as stated above to the smaller post in the front of the fuse box (looking from front of truck will be on the right) and you will need a 40 amp square fuse and a 6mm nut. you will then have the aux batt power live for the trailer.

there is a second wire tucked in between the fuse box and fender that is for the trailer brake controller. don't hook that one up unless you need it. there are blunt cut wires under the dash for the controller and you don't need an open wire live under your dash.

perfect, thanks for all the help. now the auxilary posts always are hot. so does that mean that if im plugged into that camper the truck will be charging the camper battery from my truck battery and then i have a dead battery?

If your trailer is setup to charge from the truck, then yes. Not all trailers charge from the truck, many just use to the truck to insure a charge on the brake away battery.

yes that is hot all the time like the cig plug. now if the batt on the trailer is low or dead and you hook up the trailer the night before you will have a problem but if you hook up the trailer and go then the alternator will charge the trailer batt too and there should be no issues. if you are worried just make sure the trailer batt is fully charged before hooking it up to the circuit.
