ME made my old computer go haywire twice.  I dumped it.  98 was good but XP is excellent

I think the same of them all.

They all piss me off.  Every single one of them has almost caused me to chuck the computer I was using out the nearest windows.

Computers are OK if they are working.  If something goes wrong, I hate them.

none  I hate every last bit of Microsoft s*%t...

I used to like xp but if you guys understood how many security holes that are in it you wouldn't like it either.

The laptop I'm using right now is the last one I ever bought, I just configured an Apple IBOOK that I'm getting this fall.

MAC OS-X and UNIX   F O R E V E R

2000 Pro is my choice.

Win95, Win98, Win98SE, WinME are all based on DOS.

They are all modified versions of Win95.

Win2000 is based on NT, WinXP is based on Win2000.

IMHO, The bells and whistles of XP do not add enough value to the OS to justify the drawbacks/intrusions of MS.

I currently run 2000Server on a Lian-Li machine w/ an XP2000+, 480 gig of IDE storage, 16 Gig of SCSI storage, 1.5 Gig of DDR RAM, 2 workstations running 2000Pro (both w/ 40Gig IDE & 512 Mb DDR RAM), 1 workstation running 98SE, 1 workstation running ME, 1 laptop running 95B.

advice for making your PC faster.

if you have less than 256MB memory, GET MORE

if its running slow, Run a Scan Disk(through option if you have a few hours to waste) and then Disk Defrag

Also check to see how many background programs your running. to do this at the same time press "Ctrl Alt Delete" - ONCE If there is a list of more than 8, yoour probably running more junk than you need.

To get rid of that, click Start, then Run.

type in - " msconfig "

click the Startup tab, and uncheck any boxes of stuff you don't need running. When it asks to restart click yes, and then when it come back online run a few programs to see if its faster. Its its not much faster, you may need to uncheck a few more programs, OR your PC is just slow.

Also you can click Start, Programs, Startup to see some programs that start when your computer starts up.  To remove them, just right click on each item and delete.  If you are unsure if you need the program on startup, drag the item out of the startup menu onto your desktop.

You do not need: FindFast, MS Binder, Office startup, AOL, etc.

So far ME is the only system thats stayed pretty stable and not had a melt down that required formatting and really pissed me off.  2000 pro was pretty stable, still has problems with some games.  xp is too buggy.   :(

I use WIN98, a friend has ME and I didnt think much of it, right out of the box you couldnt even set the clock without it going haywire and shutting down!!! And its no joke about the memory, also a fast HD helps out a lot, cuts my boot up time in half! I am only running a 500MHz processor but have 320MB of RAM and my main HD is 20 gig 7200rpm! Alot of computers have an on board video card which steals anywhere from 4 to 10 MB, just something I dont care much for IMO! The sad thing about it is other than my processor a lot of these computers advertised for $700 and under have way less RAM than I do, kind of sad for a brand new computer!
