Intake Tube. Vs. Entire System

Hey everyone.

 

Installed the Airaid MIT on my 2010 5.3L Silverado. Despite what Airaid claims, the MIT does seem to fit fine on the 2010. Even though the MAF is connected to the top of the air filter housing, the tube is long enough to firmly clamp onto the filter housing and the throttle body.

 

Would I be benefiting at all by buying the accompanying Airaid filter/heat deflector (p/n 200-244)? Gas mileage/power increases? Or would I be better off just dropping in a high flow filter and calling it a day?

I wouldn't bother with a high flow filter like K&N or airaid. You're better off with the MIT and a good paper filter, AC Delco, Amsoil, Wix. You are not going to notice an increase in power from changing to one of those 'High flow" filters. There is a reason they are such high flow, it's because you can practically see through them, not the best in filtration. I run the Airaid MIT and drop in Amsoil paper filter and love it. I used to have a K&N panel filter and switched to Amsoil and noticed no difference, but I know the filtration is better. As far as the air box, IMO the stock airbox is a good setup, don't waste your money upgrading to an aftermarket one.

If it takes the stock air filter then the AMSOIL air filter part number is EAA123.

It's Airaid p/n 200-996. Bought it for $115.95 from autoanything.com. If interested I could post pics so you could see that it actually fits.

Something else...will a CAI enhance my exhaust note? I just installed a magnaflow muffler...kept my original piping (didn't see the need to change it).

 

If it does, would I achieve the same sound enhancement with my current setup (MIT and drop in panel filter)? Or would it be more aggressive with an open air element/cone filter?

Doubt it. You aren't going to notice much of a difference if any from changing your airbox. Just go with the MIT and a custom tune, your money will be much better spent.

exhaust noise shouldnt change. you should get alot more noise from under the hood now that the stock intake tube is gone

I'm assuming fuel economy increases are marginal too, as far as keeping my current setup vs. installing an open element cone filter?

with working at a dyno and speed shop and done the many test u are wrong. I have seen a G8 GXP with factory replacement k&n pick up 9 wheel hp on the dyno. Then put AC delco back on and lost 9whp. Ive also so a 2005HD with k&n pick up 7whp over fram. Dyno's dont lie ;) I also noticed a difference when i got rid of my huge thick factory paper filter and added a factory replacement K&N. Hell my wife even noticed it lol she said its more responsive and feels stronger.

can u take pics for me? i want this tube but i haven't found it for 2010 from 2007-08 have diff style maffs and mount different, I wanna keep my high flow factory box and add this

without changing tune. The maff needs to be as close to the stock location as possible.
