You got a nice deal on that!

Has anyone come across any dyno results for just the Airaid MIT and not the entire intake? Preferably on a NBS silverado, but I'm interested to look at anything?

I'd be real curious to see the dyno results of a drop in with an airaid MIT! I'm really interested in completing my intake but I want to make sure there are dyno results showing that I'd actually get some gain by installing the airaid cone filter/heat shield as opposed to keeping the stock air box.

I would like to see k&n in stock box and that smooth intake tube.

Do it to it, didn't you say you worked at a dyno shop?

I did find a dyno comparison between the Airaid MIT and the Airaid full CAI for a 2004 Ford F150, 5.4L.

+22hp vs. +12hp is a decent difference...granted these numbers may be exaggerated but I'm assuming they are proportional.

Does this have a relatively close correlation to what I'd see between just the MIT or the entire system? I don't mean identical numbers, but I mean seeing a proportionally bigger difference in having a full system?

i don't trust any dyno #'s from anyone that's advertising there own parts. It nice when u get a speed shop that sells them all and dose there own test! Some factory air boxes are more restrictive then others.

Like mentioned, I would never trust a manufacturers dyno results. I have seen everything from mislabeled dyno sheets, to numbers that are near impossible. Most companies will make sure the intakes are accompanied by other mods (ie. tune, long tubes etc) to show for higher numers. Seeing 22HP is ridiculous, 12 is near normal.

Matt, thanks for the great info and pics. Before I pull the trigger on this for my '09 5.3, does anyone know any negative effects of the MIT?

I started a topic a few months ago regarding the complete Volant intake I had and I guess I was not the only one with problems. The mileage plummeted, check engine light kept coming on, and the engine was running way too rich. Back and forth with Volant techs was no help and I ended up returning it.

I suspect that the problem was with how the MAF sensor sat in the Volant tube, so am I right to assume that there should be no issue with the AirAid MIT because the MAF stays untouched?

I installed it mine lately, it looks nice, more sound, started to experience a more pronounced trans shifting which started when I installed my corsa cat back, but it is worse after MIT. Genna advice was to to clean the MAF which I did. It's a little better now.. I got .1 mpg so far!

Since you asked about the negative, I can tell you my experience:

- If you try to open the box to clean the filter or just inspect it, you will disturb/miss up the hall MIT installation because the installation of MIT is so tight, the factory tube has a flexible section to prevent that!, you will miss it!...And since MIT installation is soooo tight if you lean on it or hit it or or, it will come out easily..! to me it serves the some purpose but is a fragile installation.

- Also, you need to check it from time to time, and after any maintenance to make sure it's not loose.

- As for power/Torque/Throttle, I honestly can not tell any difference from stock!, may be there is some but very minor, if they indeed exist, they are NOT for you, they are for marketing and for specs writers.

- If you don't like sound, you will not like it. But it's okay when you are cursing on the highway.

- One obvious advantage of MIT, is the stock box and sensor setup is preserved and gives you great filter options/flexibility!

I read the tune will take advantage of MIT, catback, but don't know how much..... Genna can elaborate.

I removed and inspected my stock intake tube last night. I really do not see what the big deal is. It does not appear to be very restrictive. I understand the argument that the resonators create turbulance. But I suspect it is very minimal. I can also see where they could potentially act as an accumulator during sudden throttle opening. They would provide extra air mass already in the intake tube. As far as heat soak, I really do not think one is better than the other.

My conclusion, aftermarket intake tubes most likely just provide more noise on the gmt900's. As stated before, some OEM intakes are more restrictive than others. OEM seems to be pretty decent on the gmt900's.

I'm gonna be removing my MIT Saturday (replacing stock) and tracking HP/fuel economy next week to see if the gains I experienced were due to the muffler replacement or that in conjunction with the MIT. I don't buy into hype, but I do realize the extreme difference between laminar and turbulent flow and how very small obstructions can essentially result in airflow that is harder to consume by the engine. I'm curious to see how these factors play into the increased performance of my truck.

I have a GMPP CAI...so

You will never be able to completely duplicate the exact same conditions between runs when trying to get the MPG numbers. weather, speed, traffic, barometric pressure, temperature will all be different...so there will be a variation factor you have no control over. Its like picking flysh!t out of pepper.

What little turbulence developed in the intake tube will long be forgotten and straightened out by the time its past the throttle body and mixed with the incoming fuel charge. No matter how much air is available the engine will only use what is needed for the RPM and load demand. A CAI has no forced induction capabilities. Where most gains are seen is at wide open throttle. Don't drive there all that much.

Marketing and hype have played a huge part in developing the current attitude of the unlocked horsepower and fuel mileage to be found in these engines. People want it to be true so it is... If it were that simple the manufacturers would be all over it, especially with the cafe requirements coming up.

The best bet for the money is a good tune.

Now people will say the old man has lost it...but back when I worked, I ran all stock, various intakes including an Airaid tube. Several catbacks to include A Gibson, GMPP and Corsa.

I got my best mileage when stock..but with all the stuff I have on the truck the drive ability is much improved and there is no comparison between WOT times.

Remember when doing mods and checking mileage you will be watching every little thing and mileage will automatically improve.

Just my opinion from many years of experience, now back to painting my house....
