Intake Tube. Vs. Entire System

Oh I appreciate the advice...but for weeks I can say (at least for fuel economy) I was averaging 23.2 mpg for the exact same trip, exact same miles, being careful to drive at the exact same speed/RPMs. Once I got my magnaflow and airaid MIT installed, I've consistently gotten MPG averages around 24.8, less downshifting, etc, so I do see some actual differences.

I don't buy into hype, but I do realize the extreme difference between laminar and turbulent flow and how very small obstructions can essentially result in airflow that is harder to consume by the engine.

 

I personally would not consider the resonator ports to be obstructions.

Thats because you want it to. Your mind is made up and now you are looking for supportive testimonies.

 

And thats with in the + - 3% variation..

 

sorry, after driving for 50 years and experimenting with a lot of products, I have to deal in reality...and yes I have all these mods...

I'm going to have to disagree on that. Unless I can control my truck with my mind, of course. Maintaining a speed between 60-64 mph and keeping the indicator on my tach just touching the 1500 RPM mark for a 40 mile drive every day for 3 months...there's really nothing there that's controlled by what I want to happen.

 

And yes I see the +/- variation but the fact is, in the past, mileage never dipped below 22.9 and never went above 23.5. Now, I've consistently seen it between 24.7 and 25.2. These are numbers, straight facts.

Maybe I'm just a simple hick from the south... :D

Maybe I'm just a simple hick from the south... :D

 

Well I installed a Magnaflow muffler at the same time as the intake tube...that's why I'm planning on removing the tube to see if there are any changes. In any case, the theory behind it is simply that making the engine work less to take in the air it needs allows it to work less, so if you can keep your foot out of the gas, there are actually performance gains. Something had to help my truck, but I can't say what for sure until I experiment with the intake.

I have seen many great cars, sports, best makes, most reliable, high performance.....all have resonators!,

 

 

Wish I know how much IAT is affected by Airaid MIT compared to stock?!!!

It's not that I'm getting more air into the engine, it's that the engine has an easier time getting the air it needs.

Wish I know how much IAT is affected by Airaid MIT compared to stock?!!!

 

 

Seeing as it's a similar material and there's no forced induction, I can't see the IAT being much different...but that's just my thought, not based on any concrete evidence.

It's not that I'm getting more air into the engine, it's that the engine has an easier time getting the air it needs.

 

 

Trust me, at cruising the engine is having NO trouble what so ever taking in the small amount of air it needs to support that RPM. You are grasping at straws.

I mean, that's really what I'm thinking too...what happens according to theory rarely works in practice. But I've seen many opinions and been surprised many times, so I'd like to see what happens when I go back to stock.

Are your mpg claims based on the computer readout?

 

 

The figures I gave were from computer readouts. I have, in fact, checked these by gallons at the pump/miles driven and they are surprisingly accurate.

 

Not to jump the gun but even if these readings are off, they'd be proportionally off.
