Is Any Tune Really Worth It?

I was about to order a Blackbear tune the other night, but just when I am about to pull the trigger, I read another post on this site that said the only real differance I will notice in my 6.oL gas is tranny shifting. Don't get me wrong, better tranny performance would be great, but I want to notice some real power gains. Can you guys tell me what I will gain from a Blackbear performance tune? .......... and tell me what you really think.......not: It is so freaking awesome or any useless information like that. :nono:

Thanks guys

Even if a tune does not net huge hp gains. It will enable the powertrain to deliver the engines power more aggressively which will be very comparable to adding extra hp. If you have any dislikes about the way you truck runs, a custom tuner should be able to address that for you.

Exactly what is your main reason for wanting a tune?

There are so many threads on here that already answer your questions.

You will notice a difference in how your 6.0 performs. Will you gain 300 more hp? NO! Will it be much more drivable and responsive, YES! Will you feel it in the seat of your pants? YES! One difference I can remember is when I'd be accelerating from a dead stop fairly aggressively, at some point it felt as if something was holding me back. It wasn't trans shift points. It was the engine acceleration limitations. Passing on the highway took much more pedal movement before the tune. Now it passes easily and effortlessly.

I doubt the peak HP will change with any tune, but that is a BS number anyways, who runs at redline all the time? What you will get is more performance in the driveability of the truck, if will feel stronger in the normal driving rpm range (which is what manufacturers need to start doing).

Thanks guys. I am looking for responsiveness I guess. I just want my 6.oL to go when I tell it to. It just feals like there is something holding me back. I just wanted to make sure that I was going to see more than just smoother shifting.

Now I need to know whether I should go with autocal or traditional. Blackbear offers a couple, don't they?

The traditional will get you very close but you'll eventually want a few minor tweaks. With the autocal is will be easier to tweak your tune from now on. Next best thing would be an in-person tune.

you arent gonna get any better gains for 200 dollars then you will with a blackbear tune (or any good tuner for that matter) Its a no brainer. No exhaust or intake or blah blah will come close to what you can get for your money with the tune. The tranny is whats holdin you back. Well not the tranny, but the way the tranny is tuned i should say.

Well, since they never come to Utah, I guess the autocal would be the best?

If you can afford it, that is the way I'd go. But you will be pleased as punch with the traditional tune. Plenty of people go the traditional tune route and don't make changes. You can always buy the autocal later and tweak things. All depends on what you want to spend.

Well, I'm anxiously awaiting my cable scan in the mail. Just sent the money to Justin tonight. I am sure it will wake up this sleaping giant. :)
