Silverado 6.2l With Headers & Stock Exhaust

I have a 2010 Silverado ltz 4x4 with the 6.2L and 3.73s. I think it sounds great but have been thinking about adding a set of AR headers. I would like to keep everything else stock exhaust wise (might delete the resonator). I am sure someone has experience with this. How does it sound and how loud is it? I don't want it to be too loud when on the highway yet would like a bit more growl when accelerating. Is it worth the cost? I would choose this over the cat back option because I assume the power gain would be greater.

Summary: Stock 6.2L exhaust plus AR LT headers = good or bad? Too loud or just right?

The manifolds do little in the way of noise reduction. Taking out the resonator would have more effect than simply bolting headers on sound wise.

I was going to say the same thing,you'll get more sound from either a cat-back system or removing the resonator.

Ok thanks. I didn't know that they wouldn't change the sound/volume of the exhaust. I have never added headers before.

Headers will definitely change the tone of the exhaust, if not the sound. The sound may be 'slightly' louder, but the tone will definitely be different and more exotic sounding. You'll need a tune 100% though which is why I haven't gotten headers on my Denali.

I have ordered an autocal already. Just waiting for it to get through customs and into Canada.... I was just trying to decide on the headers before getting the tune done.

I thought I read on here somewhere that someone had added headers to there otherwise stock 6.2. I could be wrong though

You can add them to the stock exhaust,I wouldn't myself,but you can if you want,Getting a cat-back system alone would be easier,cheaper,and get you more of an increase in power.

Waste of money if you are just going to run it back into the stock exhaust setup. Any "exotic" sound will be lost in the stock exhaust. But if you ran true duals with an x pipe though.....

You can bolt up a set of shorties with the stock exhaust. I bought my SD and they had pre-done performance mods to it. Shorty headers, Volant CAI, Corsa cat-back exhaust.

More power? I don't know. Sounds cool when you lay into it though. I don't think I'd waste the money on headers with stock exhaust. Much like the CAI, it adds a "heh I've got 'X"" factor, but drains the wallet of beer money.
