Electronic Shift Problems

I have a 2005 GMC 1500 Crew Cab Z71 that would shift into 4wd high when I stop. I thought I had this problem corrected by having dealer install new encoder switch ( 6mths ago). The other day I tried to shift into 4 wd high and it hesitated, the light blinking longer than usual then engaged. The problem was it would not shift back to 2 wd. Finally, after 30 min or so it responded and shifted back to 2 wd. Since then, every time I start the vehicle it is in either auto 4wd or 4 high. Took back to the dealer, downloaded a fix, no change. Replaced module under dash, downloaded program. Worked for 1 day and now it is back to being in auto 4wd when I start. I have taken fuse out on side of dash so it will stay in 2 wd. Dealer suggested a new transfer case but I suspect this problem is somewhere in the electrical system. Anyone have any ideas on what to look at next? Encoder motor maybe?

Replaced the encoder motor this pm. Everything fine. I just don't understand why the dealer wouldn' t methodically test each electrical component before assuming I needed a new T-case.
