and I probably won't be checking in as regularly now.   I've been shopping for a heavier pickup (2500 6.0L) and couldn't get the couple of local Chevy/GM guys to deal with me fairly after several days of trying so I ended up buying an '03 F250SD V10 4x4 Ext Cab.

I like my new truck just fine but it really bummed me out that the dealership where I'd bought 3 new vehicles wouldn't give me a fair trade-in.  The salesman that I used to know had moved.  So I started looking at SDs out of frustration and ended up really liking them.  Neat thing was that they were unloading new '03s off the trailer when I got there and the truck I bought still had all the protective plastic and seat covers on when I first looked at it and was completetly untouched!

Nothing bad to say about my old Z71-I hope the new owner takes good care of it!  Also I hope I helped some of you guys and maybe entertained you a little bit.  This is a great forum with great folks and I learned alot here.  Later, but I'll try to check in out of habit every once in a while!

(Paco will be happy, eh?)!!

Well, we will miss you.  Congrats on the new purchase though.  I love the Ford Superduties, a diesel F250 4x4 will definately be my next truck, though that is a few years off; my Silverado is fine for me now.

Be sure to stop by and say hello every so often.   :thumb:

Trust me I'm not dissappointed with your decision!

Please Post pics! (Or E-mail\PM them to me)

One question, why the V-10 over the 'stroke? Or the 5.4?

Also, please keep me informed of any follow ups (MPGs, problems, mods, what you think of the V-10, etc.)

Aww Ron, sorry the GM dealer wouldn't give you a fair trade in.  :D   Good luck with your new ride, and I hope you enjoy it.  Thanks for helping out here, you definately passed on some good info.  Hope to still see you around here though.    :D

Yep if noone cares I'll get a few photos up here in a few days.  As far as the engine choice-I drove a 5.4 with the new 6-speed manual and 4.10 diff and it was impressive.  Felt like it had more than enough low-end torque but seemed to run out of steam when I pushed it up to interstate speed.  But the V10 really surprised me with it's acceleration and interstate performance.  It moves this truck with the same ease the 5.3L moved my 1500 (I'm comparing both unloaded here of course) and from what I'm hearing the mileage with the 5.4 vs the 6.8 is nearly the same.  That plus the fact the 6.8L is only an extra $600 option sold me.   I've bad-mouthed that V10 a few times but I have to admit I'm eating my words! :(

The diesel is simply a money issue.  The 7.3L is a $5000 option and I like diesels ok but I think it'd be unwise to buy it when Fords new 6.0L diesel and HD auto tranny is coming out in just a few months.  The old 7.3L will soon be discontinued I guess??

General I'll keep you posted on the mileage-I'm anxious to see how I do.   I read alot of info about the V10 and there does not seem to alot of widespread serious problems with it.  A few stories about blown plugs but not many.  It's wild to look in the engine bay and see 5 sets of plug wires on each side!  :D  I'm easily entertained!  If one blows I still got 9 more left!! :thumb:

Aww, Hill we're gonna miss having you on this board regularly!!  I understand why you did what you did; my best man had a similar incident trying to switch from Ford to GMC, but the GMC dealer just wouldn't give him crap for his old '87 F-150, so he stayed w/ Ford.  I think most people here would agree the SD's are excellent trucks.

Whatever you do, stay in touch, and congrats on the new transport!  I look forward to seeing pics.   :D

Hill,

Congrats on the new truck. Can't wait to see the pics. About this not comming around so much stuff, I really don't care what you drive. You are one of the core contributers to the forum. I personally would be dissapointed if you stopped hanging out out here just because you have a new truck.

Congrats on the new truck!!!  Sorry you couldn't make a deal and stay in the family.  I'm glad you got the 6-speed and not the auto... that should save some headaches down the road.  My friend has the V-10 in his class III motorhome, and has no complaints on power etc... and as far as I know, it has been flawless for him so far.  I don't know if I'll ever get used to the sound of those V-10's though...  They just don't make me smile like the sound of a nice  V-8 small block or big block.

Please stick around, because you've got some great info to help us out with!!!   :thumb:
