Dead 1997 Tahoe

I have an electrical problem with my Tahoe. Yesterday backing out of the driveway everything shut off and the engine died. Happened all at once, no sputtering, just running perfectly then nothing a second later. No lights anywhere, and nothing happens when I turn the key.

The only symptom I have found is a clicking noise when a door is open. Real fast click, similar to a blinker click when your tail light is out. Only happens with the door open. It sounds like it is coming from the dash somewhere below the radio.

I replaced the alternator a year and a half ago. I checked the battery and leads. Gone through the fuses, and they all look fine.

I suck at electrical, and short of starting to pull the dash apart, I don't know what to try next.

If you've lost all electrical you have to start with the battery. Have your local parts shop test it. If it's not shot, just dead, you have a short some place pulling the battery down. I don't know how you would find it without a wiring diagram. I had a problem with my wife's 87 Vette this weekend, no electrical. Looking at the wiring diagram there was no fuse or fusible link that could kill everything. It was the battery. It wouldn't show anything on the test maching at Pep Boys.

Good Luck,

had a similar problem, it was the battery terminal (ground). When I tested the batt it was fine, all fuses ok. I happened to move the batt juat a little, hood light came on, that's how I found out.

Didn't you say you checked the batt?
