Hesitation When Starting With Light Throttle

I have a 2011 Tahoe LTZ with 900 miles on it. When I take off easy from a start with a very gentle foot the transmission shifts quickly from first to second as expected but then in second gear with low RPM’s it seem to hesitate and stumble until the RPM’s build a little and then smoothes out and goes. I can even notice the tachometer jumping a little instead of building RPM’s smoothly. It will also do the same thing from second to third. If I take off with just a little more throttle but still not a heavy foot, it seems to build RPM’s more smoothly. Is this normal for these engines (5.3) and 6 speed transmissions? I had an 02 Yukon with the 5.3 and 4 speed and it was very smooth at light throttle.

My 2010 Sierra does the exact thing.

Thanks for the replys. I guess I'll just have to learn to live with it. Maybe it will smooth out as I get some more miles on it.

could be the dod? I cut the muffler and beyond off, and you can really feel this hesitation, but mine only does it when it's cold start in open loop.

Sounds like the torque nannies to me.....backs off the torque until the shift is complete

dod displacement on demand ??

My 2010 5.3 CCSB did this, but only when cold and it seems to have cleared up at about 7000 miles. It was quite noticeable but I haven't thought of it again until I saw your post.

Mine does this too. Also, if slowing to a stop, I start to accelerate again (like stopping for a red light, and then it turns green just before stopping) there is a pretty firm "jerk" of the drive train. I get that there is some slack in it, but it seems pretty hard. Normal?

DOD=Active Fuel Management: when 4 cylinders in the Engine shut down to get better Fuel Economy in a V8. (most people on here HATE AFM because of "Overactive Lifters" which causes brand new trucks to consume oil)

Open Loop is when the Engine is Cold, The Engine Computer Ignores the Oxygen Sensors until the Exhaust/Sensors are warm enough to not give a false reading.

Same here, I was used to things with very sensitive throttles but now I just know you have to push the throttle a lot more to get underway so I am used to it, it is strange though when you press the pedal to where you think will start you moving and nothing happens.
