Can't Get U-joint Caps Out

Well, I pressed the caps until the u-joint bottomed out, but I can't get anything to grab the caps and get them out. Any suggestions, short of cutting the u-joint out? Thanks!

Put some heat to them. Just enough to melt the plastic keepers.

When I heat them up they actually pop off. Kinda fun really.

Yup. Heat them.

 

I just used a little Coleman butane torch (the kind you plug into the camping bottles) and put the fire to 'em. They ooze and ooze and ooze, then *POP*. Wait for the pop, and then they'll come right out.

 

Wear gloves though, you ARE heating metal with fire

Thanks! I didn't have any kind of heat source. I put some 3-in-1 oil on the caps and let them sit a while, hammered back and forth a few times and finally, with a pair of vice grips was able to get them out. I'm never watching a how-to video again! It always looks 100 times easier. I swear they take it all apart then put it back together, then turn the camera on and take it apart again. Anyway, all is back together. Thanks!!!
