Side Exhaust Exit Before Axle

Recommended Posts

Any real benefits to a single side exhaust before the rear axle...mostly in terms of sound? I'm doubting there will be any "performance" difference if messing with the pipe after the muffler. I have a Magnaflow 14".

And does anyone know if this would cause corrosion/staining issues like with the late '90s F150s? Thanks!

Several people I've talked to don't like the side exit in front of the wheel because the soot gets all over the rear wheels  Otherwise, it looks good.

They should was more frequently, as that would remedy the soot problem.

You have to be very careful in which muffler you choose otherwise you will have tons of drone in the cab. There is not much room to get the muffler behind the cab and spaced out from the exit. I have had a 14" Magnaflow and a dynomax bullet, both with lots of drone at certain RPMs. So much so that I'm considering putting the stock exhaust back on and just switching out the mufflers.

^That's right.^ And the farther away you can get that exit from the cab, the happier you will be when the engine drops into 4-cylinder operation, unless you're willing to have it tuned out.

I had the exhaust done to my 2010 5.3L 2WD 6SPD 3:08 a couple months ago. I opted for the Magnaflow 22" oval dual in/out with a built in x-pipe. It is true duals. Sounds fantastic! Sounds like a vette with the 5.3L upwards of 3500 - 5000 RPM.

It is loud in the cab but I don't mind it. Down side - helicopter like noise when it drops into AFM depending on what speed I am going. On the HWY at 100 - 120 km/h its bad. On side roads at 80 - 90 km/h its fine.

Very pleased with the setup. I get loads of compliments on the sound.

Time will tell if the paint peels from the heat.
