Ipod In My 01 And Speakers

right so i have the stock stereo in my 01 GMC 2500 HD with the SLE package whatever that means.... but obviously an 01 wouldnt come equiped with an mp3 imput jack so i need a way of listening to my music, im really sick of burning CD after CD. i thought about a new head unit but those are like 1/2 the size of the stock AC delco massive thing.... is my best option one of those $50 wireless things they sell for an ipod that picks up the signal on an empty radio station.

Recently my speakers got a little wetter than usual cause i left the window open over night. the next morning the speaker started to get alot of static and now it is far quieter than the passenger side which also got just as much water exposure. Im wondering how much it would cost for some average replacement speakers and if im going to do the front 2 might as well do the rear 2 since its an extended cab. If anyone could post some links showing me some options that would be great. im just looking for good quality speakers for a reasonable price. OR maybe my speakers are still in tact and i just need to fiddle with the wires a bit and thats why theyre acting up.

 

someone please help cause i like my music and listening to static and unbalanced speakers is annoying along with the fact the driver speaker is 1/2 as loud as the passenger one.

Pac audio makes an adapter that will hook up to you stock radio for the ipod.

 

As far as speakers I like to go to Crutchfield and enter my info and have them tell me speakers with sizes. Then go wherever and buy them for cheap.

1998-2004 GM vehicles NOT equipped with a factory slave unit may not be able to support an external device therefore the PXDP may not be compatible... came right off the sight? and the things about 100$ as it is.... so what about just a new head unit... anyone know of just a simple HD radio with a USB port and an Mp3 jack that they like? i also would like if it was about the same size as the massive AC delco radio cause that things huge...and i dont really want a BIG empty space.

I don't remember what I had installed in my 01HD. I took it to a radio shop and they insereted it in between the antenna wire and the radio plug. Yes I had to tune the radio into a certain station but it was transmitted through the wiring not radio waves. It also charged the Ipod while playing. I'm sure and sound system installer could do this.

hmmm sounds like a possable option but still i think i just want a new head unit then.... is their anything that will fit and be about the same size as the stock AC Delco? HD Mp3 and USB

Absolutely its just a standard double din. Like I mentioned go to Crutchfield and have their website outfit you vehicle. Then take that info and go search ebay and wherever for price comparisons. They will show you all the adapters and harnesses you need when you look up accessories for the head unit you choose. I just put an AVH-3200bt in my wifes 2007 Impala. Also dropped in xm radio and steering wheel controls. I searched around for all tha parts Crutchfield had and it came out to 50 dollar difference if I piece mailed it together. So I just purchased from crutchfield out of convienience at that point. They did help alot when I ran into a couple snags with the airbag light.

 

Just a thought.

sorry for resurrecting a old post. but i have the same truck and am looking to do the same thing, my cd player displays there err message every time i try to play a cd, rather than replace the head unit id like to just hook up a mp3 player, my stereo has a acc button on it so i assume it must have some sort of input on the back, if the input is rca i have a rca to mini cable i could attach and plug it into the headphone jack of a mp3 player.

 

so my question is what sort of acc input does the factor radio have, also how do you remove the factory radio.

most people would be P.O.ed with what you did.... but i appreciate it because i JUST NOTICED i have an AUX switch too... SOOO.... would this be Possable please someone comment back and help Us out

well im glad your not pissed about bringing back the thread. if someone could tell me how to get the head unit out i could probably pull it out somtime this week and see what kind of input it has for the aux input i really hope its a rca input as it would make it real simple, it wouldent charge a i pod or mp3 player but the motorola phone chargers for with the mini usb plugs seem to work, a buddy of mine used one of my old phone chargers to charge his ipod once. I dont even currently have a mp3 player but if i can make it work ill go pick up one of them little cheap mp3 players if the cd player worked i honestly wouldent care but somtime its hard to find a radio station when travling let alone having to change stations every hundrid miles.

That AUX button was for a factory installed XM or CD player. Also on some of the newer head units there is a 3.5mm jack on the front of the head unit. When you run a 3.5mm cord from your headphone jack on ipod to the radio and select aux it will play. However, most likely for you guys to achieve the goal you after you would need to purchase an aftermarket ipod adapter that will plug into the back of the head unit. Then hitting the aux button will switch to that adapter. PAC audio makes one.

 

Oops I just reread your post up top about some slave unit thinggy. In this case there would be no cheap way of going about this unfortunately. I will say, however, the simple fact that I can carry over 70gigs of music with me at all times vs several CD cases that I need to swap out is just priceless. The Ipod is one of those things that Apple knocked out of the park. The zune still cant hold a torch to it. Up until these newer generation vehicles with native Ipod compatibility, you just had to buy a new head unit. Just one of those things you just gotta do. :fume:

If you purchase from Crutchfeild, not only will they match your speakers up correctly, they will also send the adapter for free that your new head unit hooks up to (if you choose to get a new head unit). It's a very simple plug and play with crutchfeilds wire harness. With this adapter, all chime sounds from your truck will now come out this small plastic box as apposed to the door speakers. They will also send you for no charge, the adpater face plate to accomodate a regular size head unit so it will fill in the gap. There is some head units that are able to fill in entire gap, like one with a screen thats interactive, but price goes up the more fancier stuff you want. Popping the dash plate off is real simple, have to put truck's E-Brake on, turn key to on, and put into drive, so that you are able to safely get panel cover off without cracking it.

 

If you have any more questions about install just let me know. I know how to put all that stuff in blind folded, it's very easy to do.

      In the 80's 90's I'd run Honda's 7,500 miles between changes using Red Line HP 5W20 and do it for hundreds of thousands of miles with issues. Back in the day it was an SAE 20 with the HTHS of a SAE 30 and SN add load. It was also very polar. Oxidation VOA was over 120. Besides those motors were SPFI and lean burn tech. I could have likely run it longer but never did.    We had a Toyota bought new I ran on Pennzoil's latest and greatest synthetic of the day with "Penthane". A made up word for a very low dose of PAO. Tried 7,500 mile OCI's in that Group III/VI chemistry and the rings tapped out at 90K. Rocker box wasn't as bad as the one Punch put up but it wasn't good either. Also a SPFI motor.    I'm around 3,750 across the board on these GDI monsters and the oil it tapped out by then usually on TBN/TAN crossover and color. Red Line HP Euro.    The AMSOIL SS brochures tell you to follow the OEM values for the service class but that it can be run up to 25K if monitored. I can't imagine what motor could go that distance and not tap out. I've never owned one.    Yes, I know. Lot's of people do. I'm just not going to be one of them.

      I knew a guy in the early 80's that bought a new Monte Carlo and ran it a 100,000 miles without ever changing the filter or the oil. Just kept adding. It looked like that inside.

      Good evening. I was lucky enough to get passed down to me a 2007 GMC LBZ that was my great uncle's. While the underside and rockers are more or less gone I feel like with time I can restore it to working order since it only has 110,000 miles and he put nearly every option he could get without getting the new body style since he did not trust DEF. So far I have done everything I can think of but when I put the key into the ignition nothing happens. I put 2 brand new batteries in it. Cleaned the terminals. Check all the fuses and relays and they all pass with my multimeter. I know I'm missing something that I just cant think of. The only odd thing is the OBD2 port works which makes me think its not the mega fuse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

      Looks nice. I still have my 2000, 1500. Bought a 2025, 1500 for retirement. Feels solid. These trucks have a bad rap on the internet. My brother has a `24 1500, 5.3 with 52,000 miles. No problems at all. Mine hasn`t either but mine`s only at 12,700 miles. Have seen some of these things with 100,000 miles with no problems.

      Howdy! New to the forum of course! My name is Casey, just picked up a 2024 high country midnight edition. First “new” truck in 24 years for me. Driving a 1998 Z71 since 2002. Have been on the GMT400 forum with lots of good info and help there. Nervous about driving these newer trucks and all their electronics…. Did a lot of work on the Z71 myself over the years. New truck is definitely a nice upgrade after 24 years. Photo of the old and new, still keeping the Z71 - has 320,000 miles on her and still running well!
