Led Interior Lights

has anyone upgraded the OEM dim yellow interior lights to LED?

I've done it on my last 2 vehicles.. the Overhead console and rear DVD lights are both 42mm Festoon Style 212 bulbs, Putco makes a nice set specificly shaped to the overhead (http://www.partsgeek.com/assets/perf/full/18975-03138426-1276937.pdf) but they are $150 for 4 bulbs (lame)

I've seen some others on ebay, v-leds.com, superbrightleds.com (which is what I had in the last car) ranging from $10 to $80..

problem is that the design of the overhead console is a bit odd and I am not sure the normal square style http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/e...pg?t=1283212766 will fit correctly.

any pictures from anyone, I'd hate to spend $80 in bulbs only to not have them fit.

why not just use an led design that has less leds on them?. like a 2x3 or 2x4, instead of that 3x4 you posted.

my dome/map lights are only a 2x3 and that is plenty to illuminate the cab.

i even did my vanity lights led

yeah the vanity lights are the same bulbs I had in my chrysler visors, that isn't my concern.. I am looking to see what fits. so I can get the most light possible for the least $$

in my Chrysler the overhead was square, so I had a 25 SMT panel in there (5x5) and it was great..

just trying to feel out other members before I spend the cash on anything.. be great if someone local sold what I want, but no one does, got to be an online purchase.

I did the interior of my 02 Silverado. I really like them. I like the fact that it is a whiter light.

would the LED replacements have the 'fade in' and 'fade out' that the current courtesy lights have? (when you open doors, etc) I personally LIKE the fade, but my experience with LEDs, they're on/off is quick, with no fade.

And another question.. for the vanity lights.. how do you get in there to replace them? Which bulbs are they? Use a small screwdriver and the plastic covers pop off? Didn't want to try until I knew what to pry off.

I used a plastic putty knife (real small one) I won't use metal anything to pop off the covers, it tends to damage the surrounding plastic area.

these are the bulbs you need for the vanity lights:

I bought all mine off of here.

As for the fade in fade out, leds have an operating voltage and will only work within that voltage. Unlike incandescents where the voltage can vary up to a point before the filament burns, leds have a very "short" fade cycle. I remember back in school that there is some electronics that you can use to make the led have a longer fade cycle but its still not nearly close to an incandescent.

If you really LIKE that fade, then you should try these out. I use these for my license plate bulbs bc the leds are too big to fit in the housing.

Is there not a store I could walk into with the old bulbs and get led ones? I live in canada and shipping here usually costs more than the product itself.

I want leds in the cab!

thanks, I won't buy from super/autolumination.. the owner Tracy is a complete ass, their service is the worst and their products are crap.. I spent over $200 with them 5 years ago and all their crap burned out within 6 months.

I get all mine from superbrightleds.com or v-leds.com I've never had any issues with any of their products and the couple of bulbs I did get that burned out in under a year were replaced instantly without question (long as I returned the bad unit)..
