Ohdee Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Took my six month old 2010 Silverado LTZ with 6028km into the dealership this morning with what is a massive rear engine seal leak! I can’t believe it! I was hoping it was a lose oil filter. It’s not! I’m really bummed out because I don’t know what happens next. Do they have to pull the motor out to get at that seal? They say (who ever they are) it’s never the same as factory. Is it a lemon, or just one of those things that can happen? Is it common with the 5.3? Will it happen again? How long will I be without my truck? Can I demand a new one....LOL?

No They say (who ever they are) it’s never the same as factory. Is it a lemon, or just one of those things that can happen? Yes it happens sometimes Is it common with the 5.3? I wouldn't call it "common", but it does happen Will it happen again? Probably not for a long time and a lot of miles How long will I be without my truck? For the day at the most Can I demand a new one....LOL? NO
twavor Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Out of the thousand and thousands of trucks that GM sells, sometimes stuff happens like that...don't let it bother you, it's only a seal. Could even be the seal manufacturers problem. They will probably pull the transmission out and replace it, not a big deal, and it's an easy fix. Replace the seal and your done, shouldn't be a recurring problem. Travis
MS3DALE Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 More than likely they will drop the transmission to get to the seal,If someone knows what there are doing its not a bad job and will be good as new. Again,If someone knows what they are doing you should have your truck back in a day. No sorry,You can't ask for a new truck just yet
Ohdee Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 Ok, now is when I get in trouble. Be gentle.... please! I took the truck to Mr. Lube for my first oil change. Was hoping the leak was just a lose filter. Took it back to Mr. Lube and they took me under the truck and showed me the issue is the rear seal. I took it to the dealership and made the above post. Ten minutes after posting this the dealership called me and said MY TUCK HAS NO OIL LEAKS! I told him that’s impossible; I have a slick on my garage floor that says differently. He said the filter is tight (Mr. Lube dude obviously tightened it this morning) and the seals are fine! So I’m very happy my truck doesn’t require a major repair at only 6000km but now I have to catch it from you guys for taking it to Mr. Lube! Lesson learnt, dealership does oil changes from now on!
MS3DALE Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Don't feel too bad,dealerships can make mistakes too,trust me,I know
cerbomark Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 If you want something done right, do it yourself.
MS3DALE Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 If you want something done right, do it yourself. Thats why I do all the work myself on my vehicles
mtiffinal Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 I once had the exact same thing happen with the loose filter......guess what? It was done at the dealer!
kdixer Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 If you want something done right, do it yourself. +1 Nobody cares more or even as much about your vehicle than you.

I'd do it BUT, disposing the used oil is a PITA so... Not sure about out west, but in Ontario if you bring it to a local garage or Canadian Tire, they will take it for you as they recycle it and from what I know get paid for it. Also I think they cannot refuse it with that stupid eco fee in place.
