Changed Knock Sensor But Its Still Rearding Timing

i changed both knock sensors yesterday then drove with thhe autocal connected. cel was still on. i watched the data my timing still gets retarded 8.0-9.4 degrees at wot. does it still think its bad? do i have to clear the code then do it

Is the truck detonating? Bad Fuel? Try putting some higher octane in it and see if the counts go down.

the p0332 that ive had so i changed the sensors. i didnt clear the code though. i was wondering if it will do this until the code is cleared

I don't believe that it will retard the timing that much with just the code, but it would be a good idea to clear the code so you know if you fixed the knock sensor problem or not.

Well, you do need to clear the codes after changing them.

I guess this should have been the very first question... if the engine is actually knocking/ detonating then the knock sensors are functioning correctly.

 

also, did you inspect the harness well while you were in there? another possibility is that the harness inadvertently got pinched under one of the intake runners during reassembly, I've seen it happen more than once.

there is no knock. there is a new harness. nothoing is pinched.

Knock sensor module in the PCM and/or the PCM itself?

Actually just to make sure...take your connector loose on top of the intake that goes to your knock sensors and ohm test eack terminal to ground....each one should measure in the high 90's.

Two things. Not sure on the newer trucks, but I know in my TPI car that if you ground the knock sensor wire it tells the ECM that there is no detonation/knock and the ECM does not retard the timing. One way to get around it and test to see if the engine is actually knocking. Also I have seen times where noisy lifters (valve lash) can cause a knock count. Other than that, the only other thing is the knock module.
