I have always used 10/30 oil in my vehicles. We winter in the SouthWest and often the temps are 100. I guess I am old school. I noticed in my manual that GM recommends 5/30. What weight do most of you use?? PLEASE: No discussion of brands , etc.

Thanks

20 years ago, multi weight oils were considered light duty only. The technology has greatly improved. I was a 30 w guy for ages and had no issues whatever but the new multi-vis oils seem great. I have always used 10-30 in my 5.3, now with 160000 miles. My engine is great. The new oils seem fine. I am an old schooler too.

Why not just use what was recommended by the manufacturer? It's what the truck is designed to use. Doing things just because they are the way you used to do them doesn't really have any bearing here. I used to crap my pants... but I stopped that when I was about 2.

Yeah... you know me. I was just poking at Bruce a little... but there is absolutely no reason he can't continue running 10W30 and be perfectly safe. Especially in a climate that doesn't get extremely cold.

 I use 5-30 because of the colder climate by me.

I called the Quaker State hotline and they recommended sticking with the 5/30. He ststed that if I had an oil related warranty issue GM could deny coverage. Seeems a little far fetched but you never know.

Yeah, but as you get older that will start up again I'm sure.
