I Can't Figure It Out...

I have lived in my house for right about a year and I guess I've been procrastinating. I can't figure out why garage door won't close unless I'm holding the button on the wall pad. I have no problems opening it with the remote, but every time I go to close it, it stops and goes back up. I have checked that the sensors are lined up and the lights are green. It used to shut when I first bought the house, but about after a month, it stopped working. I then realized I had to hold down the pad. I tried adjusting the chain, and also sprayed it with some garage door lube stuff with no success. Any ideas??? :)

It's a Chamberlain 1/2 HP chain drive from Lowes... came with the house.

There should be an adjustment for 'downward force'. Turn it up a little until the door closed on it's own.

Pressing and holding the button over-rides the settings, hence why the button works for you.

exactly what i was going to say. They are right on the back of the opener where your sensor wires connect. they are blue one for upward force and one for downward force.
