gmowner4life Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I have lived in my house for right about a year and I guess I've been procrastinating. I can't figure out why garage door won't close unless I'm holding the button on the wall pad. I have no problems opening it with the remote, but every time I go to close it, it stops and goes back up. I have checked that the sensors are lined up and the lights are green. It used to shut when I first bought the house, but about after a month, it stopped working. I then realized I had to hold down the pad. I tried adjusting the chain, and also sprayed it with some garage door lube stuff with no success. Any ideas??? It's a Chamberlain 1/2 HP chain drive from Lowes... came with the house.
pwall Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 There should be an adjustment for 'downward force'. Turn it up a little until the door closed on it's own. Pressing and holding the button over-rides the settings, hence why the button works for you.

They are right on the back of the opener where your sensor wires connect. they are blue one for upward force and one for downward force.
