Tires For 2002 Silverado

First off let me say that I have used the search function and have been researching this for over two months now.

 

I am looking for new tires for my 2002 Silverado Z71. The tire size is a P265/75/16. <- NOTE THAT THIS IS P-METRIC NOT LT

 

I currently am running the older Michelin LTX M/S and have been very satisfied with it. I wanted to get the LTX M/S2 as the replacement however michelin and everywhere else is telling me that they are back ordered. I finally just got off the phone with Michelin even more frustrated than we I first called. They have told me that there are currently no P265/75/16 tires by michelin in production and have no idea when they will start production back up. I know I can get the LT size for my truck but I just simply don't need a 10-ply tire for a half-ton pickup. I have been told not to put it on there for the fact that fuel mileage will drop and the overall ride comfort will be horrible. I don't need people suggesting that I put the LT's on. I'm not going that route, bottom line! Im sticking with the P-metric.

 

I have looked at several different tires including:

BF Goodrich Long Trail

BF Goodrich Rugged Trail

Cooper Discoverer H/T

Cooper Discoverer CTS

Cooper Discoverer LSX

 

Overall here is what I Want:

I want something comparable to the Michelin. I don't do any offroading so I don't need an All Terrain tire but at the same time I want something that's got a little bit of grip to it like the M/S. Road noise is a big concern of mine, if it's going to be noisy then I don't want it. We don't get much snow here in North Carolina but when we do I want to be able to get somewhere if I need to without always having to stick it in 4wd. I of course want something with a long tread life. Right now I'm leaning heavily on the CTS from Cooper based on its specs. Has anyone here had ANY of these tires and if so what did you like/dislike about them. If anyone has any other suggestions I will GLADLY consider them. Thanks in advance!!

It sounds like you have researched this issue very extensively and you already know what you want...

 

Cooper are good tires. I say go for it..... If Michelin can't get tires to the marketplace then that is their loss. You will likely save a bit of money with the Coopers and IMO you will be getting a tire that is just as good for what you are looking for.

I bought the Cooper CTS's for mine about a month ago. No regrets...spooky quiet, sticky, responsive, smooth riding, and 2/3 the money of the Michelin.
