Magnaflow Muffler Question

I am wanting to do a muffler swap on my 2010 Silverado, and I have decided to go with an 18" Magnaflow, but cant decide which one to buy.

 

Which of these mufflers will have the deepest tone?

 

#12259- 5"x8"x18"

 

or

 

#11259- 4"x9"x18"

 

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I put P/N 12288 on my '09 CC 4.8l. Turned out great. Nice deep rumble.

I'm sure there is some wierd science involved here, but basically the greater the interior volume the greater the sound attenuation.

 

Both the listed mufflers have identical interior volumes, so I'd venture a guess that either would deliver approximately the same sound.

 

Any sound engineers out there to back me up on that???

i hope someone actually did the math that a 4x9x20 DOES NOT = 5x8x20

 

20" is just the length of muffler i bought

The case dimensions will not affect the tone much. The sound is dependent on the length of the case and the diameter of the pipe. Thats what flyin6 was saying. They have the same interior pipe dimension so they will sound pretty much the same.

 

Actually, according to Magnaflow, there is no sound difference in the different configurations. They are just for different mounting situations.
