Guys long story short

3 years ago the wife bought a jeep Grande cherokee

because we needed a 4 door for the kids and 4x4 and it was pretty cheap

she wasn't working at the time so I figured I could get it road worthy

it needed work I never realized how much until I actually got into it........

..like every working part on it needed to be replaced and anything that held fluid leaked took me a while but I got all that fixed up and shes been driving it

the doors were always a bit saggy until the drivers door flew open on here once

the door latch basically tore right out of the metal ,so I welded that up

it is so thin the metal they used on these doors .032 or something any way

now the actual hinge has torn out bottom drivers side door so I took the door off

welded the hinge back on of course it broke again since the door weighs 75 pounds

the metal that the hinges attach to is thinner than a beer can its a joke!!!

okay so we take it to a body shop they want 3K and will not guarntee it won't happen again within six months even on the new door.Fine so I go to Chryslers body shop they tell me the same thing 3000.00 plus, new door paint all that won't guarentee it either

because they still haven't changed the door metal

So in other words srcap the vehicle because we can make an F.... door that will stay on it ,even though we know and have a TSB on the problem and lots of people have this problem on the gc and the cherokee model.

Im sorry this thing is not worth 3k infact Im going to tow it over to the dealer

with my Real TRuck both doors off it and put it on the lawn right buy the brand new ones it is a safety issue Dodge has known about it for years and has done nothing

So anyone that buys one of these better keep all their beer cans and duct tape

you'll need it.

my first and last dodge product

the wifes getting a blazer or jimmy soon as I can find her one

sell it to an off-road enthusiast, they can rig it up as a trail machine where doors wouldn't be needed anyway.

what year and motor GC?

if it's 1999 - 2005 with the 4.0L motor then the door is only one of many problems you will encounter..

the 4.0L had a known issue of "flattening" the cam. basically the cam wears to the point where it can't raise and lower the valves and you will end up with multiple cylinder mis-fires, and no power..

about $2400 to rebuild the motor (minimum) at that point.

oh yeah and I am and ASE Certified Chrysler Tech... though now I am no longer working for them since the BK filing.. I have a real job now..

well thanks man for the warning its a 95 Lerado 4.0

it ticks clunks, eats oil mostly into the air cleaner until I figured out

the PCV system LOL

but I didn't think the doors would force me to junk it

I thought the engine would go first

while 1999 - 2005 are the offical vehicles with the problem, my EX had a 1994 Cherokee with the 4.0L that had the same issue, but it was not included in the TSB.. so take that for what it's worth..

The Inline 6 4.0 will outlast any 4.3L V-6 of GMs. That being said, the engine is the only good thing on Jeeps after Chrysler purchased AMC.

I've had an 89 Cherokee Sport with the 4.0, 5-speed, was ROCK solid, never let me down and to this date, was the best 4WD vehicle I've driven in the snow, with stock tires too.

I've had an 89 Wrangler with the Inline 4.3L I-6 (Carbed) Engine was great, carb sucked. Had 189,000 miles and still did awesome, despite some alternator issues.

And I've had a 94 Grand Cherokee Limited. 5.2L Dodge V-8. Loved the power, hated the AWD. AWD SUCKS on Jeeps. Even with great A/T tires.

Everything leaked on that thing too, even after $1300 worth of repairs to stop the fluid leaks, it still leaked. That ticked me off enough to finally sell her with 140,000 miles.

I'd take a pre 97 Cherokee 4X4 in a heartbeat. Same with the older style Wranglers, before they got the round headlights and the Crappy Chrysler makeover that made it not be a Jeep anymore.

well thats why I restored this one I heard the 4.0 was ......a good engine

this one ticks like a clock when it not spewing oil into the air box.

what pisses me off is I fixed all the leaks and window motors and

exhaust manifold crack and new front drive shaft, and crappy track bar bushings

and tranny cooler line leak and rear wiper motor ,PCV tubes, blend door motor

waterpump,brakes,new speedometer cluster,speed sensor,converter,muffler

tail pipe and tires ,found the short to ground killing the battery, fixed

the oil filter adapter leak, fixed the DRL module before it burnt up the thing

I even fixed the shitty remote that you have to be standing on top of it to use and now the f....... doors are falling off and can't be fixed properly

all this I did myself except took it in for an alignment

I guess Im just used to a higher standard owning about 5 gm trucks

3 of them 4x4's now, I never had 1/4 of the problems this thing has had

and now its scrap because its unsafe by vehicle standards

by rights if I took it to a shop they are supposed to keep it until I pay for the repairs

its deemed unsafe to drive.

Sorry to hear all the problems, hope you get them worked out. Wife had an '03 with the inline 6, not one single problem in 140k.....should have kept the thing, only 2wd though.
