Alternator Is "whirring"....believe Its Ready To Go.

well, i believe my alternator is getting ready to go- it used to just squeal a little bit every now and then, and now its starting to "whir" i guess you could say on a pretty consistent basis. so before it leaves me stranded i figured id start looking at alternators. my truck has the 145 amp alternator (KG3). is there a bigger one that i could get? maybe one from the hd's? not sure if the bolt pattern would match, but thought maybe someone would have first hand experience. i figure a larger alternator wouldnt have to work as hard to keep everything in my truck going (and ive started adding aux lights and only plan to add more so, could use the extra power).

so, is there any larger alternator i could get? thanks for the help.

i think the theres like a 180 or so for the snow plow preps, i'd stick with ac delco for sure though...or just get yours rebuilt

^^^^^any personal experience with it? i kinda want a reputable brand as well. and thats only got a one year warranty- makes me kinda nervous.

and now its starting to either under charge the battery slightly (just under 14 volts) or over charge it (~15 volts). and the needle wavers every now and then. im gonna switch the battery as well since im also on the original battery. optima yellow top is the way to go from what ive heard.

Pep Boys, lifetime warranty...........keep it simple, it's just an alternator.

yeah trying to keep it simple as possible- but i may as well upgrade while im replacing it. found a couple 160 amp ones i might switch too, all have lifetime warranties. it does need to be changed though, its starting to almost lull every now and again and i had it checked at autozone and they said the same thing. at least the battery is good though.
