IF I had my choice between the 4.3 and the 4.8 though, I would go for the 8 cylinder everytime. Betwen the 4.8 and the 5.3, I would have to go with the 5.3. The 5.3L has better mileage, more power, and falls into the general rule of thumb...... There is no REplacement for DISplacement

4.8L is still a good motor my buddy has one, and he likes it.

well anyone would go for the V8 over the V6. the 4.3 is an awesome engine but its just to old and outdated.

the 4.8 is a great motor, same thing as a 5.3 just smaller

Not Really,Some poeple are still under the impression that the V6 is a gas sipper in comparison to the V8's which just isn't so... It worked great in the s10's, but its now trying to haul around a full size truck frame and body.....Its working harder and using more fuel.

When I was purchasing my 08 I looked at the 4.8L and the numbers were so close that moving up to the 5.3L was a no brainer. Mind you at the time the 4.8L didn't have DOD so the highway mileage on the 5.3L was actually slightly better.

As for the V6. In my opinion the 4.3L is too small for a full size truck. Great engine for the Jimmy's and Blazers but not on a full size truck. Now I know this example is for a Ford but I'm sure Chevy's or GMC's aren't much different. He was doing some work in Nevada and his company gave him a Ford F150 with the V6 and it just didn't cut it. With 4 guys in the truck he was flooring it to get onto the highway, flooring to go up the hills to get to where he needed to. From his experience he said that a V8 would have likely used less gas because of how hard the V6 had to work to move the truck.
