4x4 Service Light 07 Suburban?

My wife was driving the other day and the service 4x4 light came on. It went off before I ever saw it.

Today the truck switched into 4 wd without moving the switch.

I went to Advanced Auto but they can't read drivetrain or brake codes and the light is currently "off" and no CEL codes either.

 

• Is there a way to read a soft code?
  
• Anyone ever have something like this happen
  
• Think this would be covered under drivetrain warranty?
  
• Any thoughts in general??

When I bought my truck I had a problem with the 4WD and took it to the dealer. I was out of the 36k warranty and the problem turned out to be the control module needed to be reprogrammed. The service manager said that was the only thing that wasn't included in the power train warranty. If the encoder motor or transfer case were the problem they would be covered.

Not sure if this is the classic style or not, but if it is, the module with the buttons sometimes goes bad too. Something to do with bad soldering..

Mine has a dial type switch you turn to the gear selection you want.

 

UPDATE:

I took it into dealer and it ended up being steering wheel position sensor.....I would never have guessed that.

The service 4x4 and stability track both triggered error codes.

 

It was covered under the 5yr/100K drivetrain but for some reason I had to pay labor. Oh well only cost me $45 and truck is all good now. Good thing as I didn't have the time nor the proper tool to read the code.
