Suburban with Duramax Diesel??

I have seen a Suburban with the Duramax Diesel driving around the Auburn Hills/Pontiac area with Manufacturer's plates on it.  When will GM Truck be releasing this for production?  Does anyone know?  Will it be a 2003 or a 2004? ???

Every Suburban I have seem only came with a 4-speed Automatic.

I remember reading somewhere that the current Duramax / Allison will not fit in the Suburban.  However, I also remember rumors of a planned Duramax (6 cyl?) for light duty pickups.

Last year I was told that they are offering a de-tuned Durmax in Suburbans, but with a smaller tranny than the Allison to fit the body/frame (4L65-E or 4L85-E???).  I figured it would be out for 2003.

I remember reading the same thing. GM will offer a detuned version of the Duramax witha 4L80E transmission the the Subs.

Speaking with the Michigan Gurus yesterday

the production is slated for the 2004 model year since

both tooling and production are in place for the 2003 models.

The problem was the chassis in which , you guessed it, needs to rest on a 2500 HD in order to accomadate the soccermom Allison five-speed automatic. Sorry to be the bearer of , well you know how it goes. With this chassis in place perhaps we can get the Dealers to write a build sheet with the automatic delete option, who knows.

Have a great one!
