2004 Silverado Wind Noise

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 Chevrolet silverado with about 88,000 miles on it. Since about 20,000 miles, I have a wind noise that sounds like it is coming from the passenger side A-pillar around 60 mph and faster, or less with a head wind. just recently, it has been happening on the drivers side too. I have looked around and can't find anything loose. I have pulled the pillar covers, taped the vent flaps in the engine compartment and still have not found the problem. Another funny thing is that I rolled the truck and had a lot of repairs done to it after the accident, and it still makes the same noise before and after. The exterior plastic cover below the windshield seems to be tight and I don't see it being the wipers. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would love to hear them. This problem has been driving me nuts.

Thanks

Scott

I would ditch that truck for a new one. It has been totaled, rebuilt and is falling apart again.

The wind noise is not coming from the third door area and is definatly coming from the dash/a-pillar area. Why would I ditch this truck? It saved mine and my wifes lives in a 45 mph roll on a 6 lane interstate in a snow storm. Neither of us got even a single cut or bruse in the accident and only one window broke from the role. A gm dealer did minor body repairs to fix it and get it back on the road. If you were a true GM truck fan, you would run this truck as long as it will run, if not, go buy a toyota and get off this forum.

A truck is like a condom. Good for one nasty encounter, then you toss it out for a new one.

Sorry bud, I plan on keeping this truck till 250,000. I was only asking about a simple wind noise problem. Not to replace an entire truck. Like I said, If you like throwing trucks out after one use, go buy a toyota, if not, stick with a chevy. I have seen some old chevy trucks take more abuse than you could ever imagine.

I know that my father n law's truck has some killer wind noise and it ended up coming from the bug guard on the hood. It was causing wind turbulance and major wind noise in the cab from the A pillar area. Ironically it is an 04 also, and the bug guard was brand new major brand.

wind noise problem is proably coming from an old weather stripping seal that extends from the A pillar, along the roof, and ends at the rear of the cab. im not sure of the exact part name or number, but considering the age of the truck its feasible too concede that with the doors being closed 98% of the time for the past 6 years, compressing the exterior weather strip, maybe its just reconformed into that postition and should be replaced.

the fact that the truck has been rolled probably doesnt help the wind noise issue, so if replacing the weather stripping doesnt work, try taking the truck back to the place where the body work was done and see if they could possibly, somehow adjust the tops of the doors to put more pressure on the exterior weather stripping seal.

adjusting all your door strikers maly help too.

Thanks for the info guys. I will try the bug shield first and see if that does it. That would be the easiest fix anyway. If not, I will look into adjusting the doors or replacing some molding.

Thanks

Thanks for the info, it was the bug guard. It did not sound like that was where the noise was coming from, but once I took it off, it went away. Thanks again.

Glad someone else has this problem! I have been dealing with this very annoying noise also that only seems to be heard over 70mph. Its a rattling noise and it comes from both A pillars. Ive yet to tear them apart to see what exactly causes it. Im going to take the bug guard off as suggested in the above posts and see if that was my problem too. Thx!

I am glad to hear that fixed your problem! Trust me, it drove me nuts trying to figure out what was wrong with the in-law's truck. Luckily, it happened when he first bought it, so it was much easier to back track to when the issue started!

I have an 05 Chev ext cab that I bought with GM accessories bug deflector and window vent visors. I've been trying to find the cause of excessive wind noise from both the drivers and passengers front door A pillar and roof line. It seems to be only in cross winds, so i've adjusted the doors latches countless times and even tried tape on the weatherstripping to build up the thickness.

Nothing has worked so tomorrow I will try removing the bug deflector and see if it works. my buddy has an 04 with no bug deflector and has never had a problem. Boy I hope this works! it's been driving me crazy.

Any other suggestions that have fixed wind noise.
