Larger Oil Filter 6.2l ?

Anyone know of a larger capacity oil filter for the L92 6.2L engine?

I always ran PF59's and PF51's on my 5.3L 04 Suburban which was twice the size as the smallish stocker. Looking for more media area...

I would stick with what the manufacture recommends. They R&D'ed the crap out of our engines and if that little filter wasn't sufficient then they would have made changes.

X2

If you need more filter area... then somethings wrong with your engine. JMO though. Do as you please

Stock filter for these engines is a PF48, apparently there is now a PF63, which is the same filter but about an inch longer.

There you go, that's what I was looking for.

I used the PF59 on my 5.3 which was about 1.5" longer. No one will ever convince me having that extra oil or filter material ever hurt anything. More than likely, the opposite was true.

The amount of "extra oil" is negligible because the only extra oil you can fit is what would fit in that extra inch of filter. And you're still going to pump the same flow of oil through the filter media as you would with the recommended filter. Its not going to gain you anything as you'll still have the same oil change interval. And depending on design, it could hang down below the oil pan and increase the possibility that that filter could get punctured.

I don't think so. remember I ran a much longer than stock filter for 6 years on my Surburban. Once my wife was run off the road and encountered undercarriage damage. THe filter was not touched. Quite a few filters on many makes are similiarily "exposed."

Second point if you push a given volume through a given area of material, say a gallon a minute through say 10 square inches it will have a resistenance of X

If we double or increase the filter area by even a few percent, the resistenance will be less given the fact that the pressure can work across a larger area. More filter media to a point is very helpful.

THe size of the filter of our engines are based on an engineering standard, an assumption given known materials used and a plethorea of test data. The filter used is sized based on the standards assumed engine lifespan. SO what it we want to go much farther? What if something off the grid occurrs which the engineers never anticipated like surviving driving in deep water, things like that? Would you want to have extra filtering capacity for instances like that?

Why does companies like Amsoil manufacturer remote dual filter units? Why would they do that if there was nothing positive to offset the cost?

I'll take the larger filter everytime.

Kudo's! I agree totally. I have driven many sports cars and the last was a 1995 formula firebird with the LT1. I raced it in the SCCA and had to do a little research but the I found that police caprice cruisers were using a larger filter. If it were not logical that more filtering media allows for better flow, especially at times of high volume, sever duty vehicles would not have high volume filters. Thanks for asking this question. OBTW I use Napa Gold filters (which are manufactured by WIX) because of their higher quality, ie. more pleats, better backflow spring, and silicone backflow valve. You may want to check them out.

Best oil filter on the market if you believe the reviews and breakdowns at bobistheoilguy

K&N HP2006

I run it on my LS3 with Castrol 0W30 to 7000 RPM without issues
