Hey Folks, I thought i'd introduce myself.  My name is John Kelley and im The New Product Expert for General Motors.  If you have any questions in the realm of new vehicles (incentives, rebates, RPO's, Test drive incentives, specifications, brocure requests, updates) let me know.  Im pretty knowlegeable and if i don't know the answer i will find it...Also if you need a GM VIN checked for recalls, special policies or just to wee what the service history or vehicle build is i can do that also.  Let me know with some posts to this thread.

Hi John

 

Just curious can you get any info about tire sizes and reprogramming?  Been some disputes.  Mainly for larger than stock sizes

 

For example i have 285/75/R16.  The stock tires were 265/75/R16.  

 

is there any way i can get my dealer to reprogram.

when you say reprogramming i assume you're talking about your speedometer.  From all of my experience it can be done but most dealers won't deal with the hassle....it wouldn't really be re-programming...it'd be mor of changing a cog in the speedometer wire to get the correct ratio.

What i was told is that the dealer has to call gm tech assistance and recieve some sort of code to put in their computer to download the new tire size info into the trucks computer

 

I am just trying to get things straight and gain an understanding

 

Another question how come gm doesnt off larger tire sizes or better quality tires on the silverados?  I think this is a complaint of many

Ok, If the dealer has to call TAC...then by all means go for it but remember that some parts of your warranty might be voided  (any modifications from factory specs).

Does the service history and recalls include before you owed the vehicle?  Mine had a few thousand miles on it when I bought it, and I'm kind of curious what might have been done to it before I had it.  It was never bought by anyone, just a dealer demo I guess.  I'd actually be interested in finding out any and all info on it.
