1997 Silverado Cup Holder

Hello, I'm new here but not new to GM trucks,

 

I have a 1997 Z71 Silverado. I have never had any problems with the in dash pull out cup holder until a few days ago. I pulled it out to use it, and now it won't go back in. Never happened to me before now. I pulled the dash off to see inside and there doesn't seem to be anything blocking it, so I am clueless as to what it is. I am not rough on my vehicles, or the interior so I'm sure I didn't break it. Any ideas on why it won't go back in?

.. anytime that I have had trouble like you describe it has been something caught or jammed in the hinge mechanism for the second holder that swings out from the main one .. or maybe yours is just worn out at that hinge point ...

Sorry, my account wouldn't let me post, kept sayin that it wasn't validated, but it wouldn't let me validate so I made new one.

 

Anyways, the side holder folds out, and back in, so the hinge still works. The problem is when I push it back into the slot it just stops like it is hitting a wall or something behind it.
