Can You Convert A '92 To Single Key Operating All Locks?

I want to have just one key that can be used in the door locks and ignition on this C3500HD truck. I remember this was a fleet option at one time and that police cars come like that. And if I remember correctly, they use the oval head key which means I’d just have to replace the ignition lock cylinder. Anybody with more information? i.e. if I find a Caprice police car in the junkyard can I swap the ignition switch?

I don't know for sure... but being that it's on the GMT 800 platform this is what I would do:

check to see if the same ignition cylinder from a 95-99 would work on your '92 - the part numbers WON'T cross, but put one of each in hand and inspect to see if they are mechanically the same, other than the key. Past that changing out the door handles/ lock cylinders to use the same style key would be it.

and NO, it's not just the "oval key" - the trucks that used just one key for ignition and doors used a two sided key.
