Little Advice

Ok just bought a 2008 Silverado, got a smoking deal on it so I settled for the 4.8. It's auto and an extended cab with short bed. My problem is, I thought it would be fine with the 305 horsepower, it's a DOG. Especially off the line. Any suggestions to help a guy out? Im thinking a Hypertech, K and N Filter Charger and a Flowmaster for starts. My question is will this help though with all the fuel management crap that they put in these things nowadays? Anyone done any of this?

definitely get a BB tune, exhaust & CAI. the tune will do wonders for off the line

settle for a tune...CAI and exhaust won't get you anything but sound, any gains are made up in your head

why not do this? just a Zo6 cam & exhaust 9 (and a turbo, still a stock 4.8 though)

seriously? nice cam, set of long tubes, big muffler to keep it quiet and it'll have more power than a tune/CAI/exhaust 5.3, probably be quicker than a 6.0.

the 4.8 can be a powerhouse with the right mods, i'm still in awe to this day of the 4.8 on youtube that threw down 1000 hp

Take a bit of that money you saved on the deal and buy yourself a BlackBear Tune.

There's a reason that everyone else above me said the same thing; because they've been in your shoes recently and the tune cures this problem.

Honestly, you won't be disappointed with a BlackBear Tune and it will make you MUCH happier with your new truck.

Congratulations on that new truck by the way!

Tune first. Exhaust won't do a dang thing. CAI DOES help in some situations, despite what a select few on here *think*

watched hundreds of dyno runs at friend's shop after changing parts. exhausts make a difference on many, although you have to a specific example of what vehicle/engine and what exhaust. LT's on any Ls based motor will pickup anywhere from 15-45RWHP when tuned. that's a huge improvement. just a cat back shows 5-15RWHP, again in a LS based engine on a mustang load bearing dyno on numerous body types, trucks, SUV's, vettes, f bodys, etc. CAI on my TBSS net gain 7hp/5tq, not bad for the investment..

oh, another mod that'll make it quicker, an underdrive pulley, another 5 to the tire, never had a charging issue as the alternator is run by the computer now.

4.8s are very slow.i would put a cai, ported and polish the tb,exhaust cutout,+1 bb tune, corvette servos would make a good amount of difference to.my 5.3 only has a K&n lid and custom exhaust out the back and that thing gets up quick.i tore up a 94 cobra and a first gen lightning.

All these engines are dogs, it feels like the truck weights 40 tons compared to my 08' CBR1000RR and 80 tons next the mustang that I had

Didn't see any mention of gears. A gear swap would get you off the line quicker as well as a higher stall converter. Combined with a cam swap, you'd have a real sleeper.

Cam swap

Higher stall converter

gear swap

and Blackbear

Any combination of the above would make a nice improvement.
