Blizzard 12-18" Game On..

Finally we are getting our first snow storm of the year. Blizzard warnings were issues last night and most of the state is gonna see 12-18" with some isolated 24" amounts. 40-60 mph winds, white out conditions. All white gold falling from the sky! Loaded 2500lbs of rock salt on the truck last night, plow is on, tires inflated to 60 psi and ready for a high 4 figure profit.

well here near scranton we were supposed to get a 8-12 but from the looks of it its gonna be about 5-7 inches... i have been out drifting all day. love the snow

I got about 4" already. East of me they got a foot already in a town where I have clients to plow. Heard the white out conditions are so bad that some roads are closed, not sure if the state is gonna call a state of emergency or not. The winds are blowing in excess of 20 mph here, and 60 mph east of me. Lee Goldberg from abc news said it is like a Cat 3 hurricane with the winds.

Our last big storm just a couple weeks ago here in buffalo ny , we saw over 3'

 

Then the next couple days another 5-6 " here and there...

 

Its making me wish i had a 2500 so i could put a plow on.... I really dont want to beat up my 1500 plowing...

wasn't too bad. except for the call i got this morning for a job where it wasn't touched at all for the entire storm. truck held up great and did a fantastic job.

 

1500 is fine just got to be easy on it and it will do good work. mine is only a 1/2 ton and did just great. use the trans temp gauge, make sure your shift is fully engaged and done before moving in the opposite direction, and turn on tow/haul mode so the trans cooler runs all the time and you will have no issues!

Wounded up in the dreaded dry slot and only got 4", but east of me where I have accounts there was over 2' of snow. The driveways had about 4' of snow blocking them from the township plow trucks. I made quite of bit of extra money from wave downs today, as people did not want to shovel all that snow with a shovel. So after finsihing my last account, I went around driving through the neighborhoods and got waved down by alot of people. This one person in particular that waved me down said that their plow guy was on vacation and she hooked me up with 6 driveways on her street, as her neighbors who also were contracted with the same plow guy had nobody to plow them out. I charged each of them $100 "Cash" and made a quick extra $700 pocket money. Then went onto the next neighborhood and spotted more waving hands.

 

So basically who ever waved at me I charged them $100 for waving, LOL.

Usually with big storms like the one we had, I'll come across people shoveling their driveway and either get a wave down, or pull over and ask if they want their driveway plowed. When people are buried in and are facing alot of manual labor they will most likely cough up the $$$. I don't go out of my way with driving around looking for work, I have plenty of it with my contracts. Today was an exception cause I just got finished with last account and decided to drive through my old neighborhood (where snow plowing all started for me back in the 1970's). I was 10 years old with a sears ST12 garden tractor with a 3' plow. I had driveways in my neighborhood that I would plow every year and made anywhere from $200-$500, maybe more. That was a lot of money for a kid my age then. I used to drive up to houses, knock on doors and ask if they wanted to get plowed. Over time I was asked to plow them regulary when it snowed, and from there history was written for me. I remember saying when I was 12 (I can't wait till the day comes when I have my own plow truck and make more money). I hope one day in the future my son will follow in my foot steps and I'll get him his own truck and plow. Hell, if my daughter would want to do the same, I would get her a plow truck too!

Man, you could make some great money in NYC and SI with this past storm. The city is still mostly paralized with abandoned vehicles and streets still not plowed. Pulling out vehicles alone could rake in some great $$$. I had to pull out one of my clients car yeasterday as he attempted to drive through a 2' drift at the end of his driveway with his lexus. I could not find any metal on the front of his car to attach the strap to pull him out, car had all plastic. Finally I had him turn his wheel out to the left and used the sway bar I think? And attach the strap to that. Didn't want to attach it to his tie rod as I thought I might yank it off possibly.

 

So they are saying on the news that NYC is in a shorten supply of tow trucks to toe cars away that were left in the middle of the roads and are plowed in. The cars parked on the sides of the roads are completely plowed in and either could be dug out in long hours of work or pulled out. I would make some serious dough if I lived there, pulling out those vehicles and plowing. Thats what I love about a storm like that, that dumps 2-3' ft of snow. Making 5 figures in less then 36hrs is a very good feeling! I could be out driving around my old neighborhood again today which was hit with 18"- 27" of snow, but am stuck home with the babies
