Lift Kits And Warranty

I am sure this has been asked before, but I will ask again

 

For those with new trucks and the 100k powertrain warranty, does'nt having a lift kit void the GM warranty in some way?

 

I cant help but think if anything ever went wrong with engine or transmission or front end components, there would be no way to get it covered under warranty with a lift kit installed.

 

Although, I have seen some dealers sell new lifted trucks, assuming with full dealer warranty.

 

Would like to maybe get a lift, but not taking any chances in voiding my warranty.

They would have to prove the lift caused the part in question to fail. So engine or tranny problems shouldn't be traced back to a lift. Now driveshafts and front half shafts/cv joints may be a different story.

When you lift a vehicle you have killed the warranty on parts replaced by the lift kit and you open a can of worms as far as future warranty work. You are really at the mercy of the warranty service writer and his GM district rep. If you have transmission trouble down the road they can potentially say the added stress of accelerating harder from the lift kit caused the tranny more stress. While it might be a totally BS, they will stand behind it. I would talk to your local service dept and see what their policy is before lifting.

 

I had a Jeep dealer tell me my starter was not under warranty on my lifted TJ because I offroaded and it was exposed to unusual elements. Also that my OEM seat material was not under warranty for tearing at 15K miles because I had a lift and I had to slide over it more.

you just have to be ready to stand tall and make one hell of a scene and yell at everyone and their mother. added stress on tranny from taking off. yes i see it. no question about it. however trucks are meant to tow. so if you towed every day what would the difference be? be ready to fight tooth and nail. HOWEVER get a quality lift kit (bds has an awesome warrenty) and get new gears installed (to bring back performance/make it easier on the transmission) youll never have an issue aside from normal wear and tear. you might just notice things like tie rod ends wear out a few thousand miles sooner. and brakes dont last as long.
