Oil Cooler Removal

Recommended Posts

I have a 93 sierra, 5.7 that has a factory engine oil cooler. Both my hoses are leaking bad and I don't tow anything with it. I don't need the extra cooling. I live up north and its damn cold right now. Extra engine cooling is not needed. Whats needed to remove them and cap it off, or is this possible once the upgrade is done?

Yes, you can remove it, however the cooler is key to keeping the oil from overheating, which can cause the oil to become to thin and reduce its lubricating effect. Even if the engine is not under stress, the oil still needs to be cooled. If you do decide to remove the cooler, you will have to run a bypass from the output to the input, but i would just replace both hoses, but that is totally up to you. Good luck, hope this helped!

sry Brad i disagree,

engine oil coolers are not that nessesary because there are deisel GM trucks of old that DO NOT have cooler lines at all from factory.

i removed mine and plugged off the block and neverminded the cooler ,

i drive the shit out it and no worries AT ALL,

mike ,go ahead and remove the lines and take the fitting to a hardware store that has matching plugs, apply thread tape or pipe dope and driver..

\

my truck is a 93 C10 with a 6.2 deisel as in under my avi

you can plug the cooler to to keep the crap out if you decide to have them recrimped ( did that on a 85 C10 "burb" which i had to have as i towed with it)

where are you from Mike?
