What Tires Or Rims!?!?

So... I have the stock 20" with some silly street tires, which will not do. I decided to troll craigslist and found a nice set of 17" stock chrome steel rims, then I found a set of BFGoodrich Mud-terrain that I slapped on the 17's for just mud. I put the 17's with the mud tires on my truck last night just see how they look and ride and maybe tear up some snow/mud. Well now I see that I MUST have REAL-TRUCK tires on all the time. soo my question here is:

A - do I use the 20" rims and buy tires for them and if so what tires should I get that will be GREAT for mud and good for the street? (I don't have a lot of money)

or

B - do I use the 17" rims and buy tires for them and if so what tires should I get that will be GREAT for mud and good for the street? (I don't have a lot of money)

Help,

Thanks guys!

I can't really make any recommendations with regards to the tire you should put on, but I'd stick with the 17" wheels, especially if you want to go off-road. You'll be able to put tires on with a higher profile than you'd get with 20" rims (unless you put on much bigger tires).

I would keep looking on craigslist for mud tires for you 20s for cheap (Like 600-700 bucks)

or

Sell your factory 20s for $1100-1200 and buy some aftermarket 17s and mud tires. (Like 600-700 bucks after you sell your 20s)

Nadielite - thanks I'm thinking I'm going with your 2nd idea. I didn't realize my factory 20's would be worth that much.

NickV - I meant as in they are good in the mud and won't wear so bad on the street, like mickeys with the center tread.. but thanks for age complement..

Anyone have suggestions for the type of tire I'm looking for?

17's = My buddy loves his BF Goodrich KM2's. They have worn extremely well and do great in the snow and offroad from what I have seen. I'm putting 285/70/17 KM2's or Cooper Discoverer ST's on the new wheels I just bought from a gentleman on here for spring, summer, fall. The reviews on the Discoverer ST's I have seen are great, and the price is lower.

Also, look into Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ's. I have never heard or seen a complaint other than price and they look really good.

20's= If you keep the 20's most scream for Cooper Zeon LTZ's. I have seen more and more of Nitto Trail Grapplers on here also.

tires that are GREAT in mud and good on the street? are you like 15 years old???

Do we really have to be negative? Its just a question. I like firestone transforce for 17" tires.

I'm running 16's so I don't know if this is really relevant but I'm running firestone destinations A/T 265/75/16. I have them on a 2003 Silverado Z71 all stock they do well in snow considering I have no weight in the bed. They have tons of grip in the field and in mud (not bogging.) Seem to wear well but I only have 1k on them. Def have a lot more grip than the dueler A/T's.

I have Hancook Dynapro M/T's on my truck and they have been pretty good. Admittedly I was on a budget when I was buying, but I thought they were the best for the money anyway. They've been great in the snow and mud. They're a little noisy, but what can you expect from mud tires?

Thank you.

Couldnt imagine stepping down in size from my OEM when considering aftermarket. Its a step in the wrong direction. Get trail grapplers in 20's

stlavsa - I know I think your right, but I'm on a budget!! choices choices.. decisions decisions...

It's your truck that you have to look at and drive everyday. The cost isn't that much more and IMO you should just hold off and save that much longer to get what you really want. If you buy the first thing you see thats in your budget at the time, you will regret it.
