Rattle And Locker

My 2008 has 60K miles and has just developed an annoying rattle, sounds like its coming from the left side of the dash but down low near the emerg brake pedal, no luck in isolating the source as of yet, any ideas? The truck is a crew cab and has never been on any thing worse than a gravel road (only a couple of times at that).

Also my G80 has quit working (at least it lasted 60K, the one in my 03 only lasted 30K), would it be covered by the 100K powertrain waranty?

And before anyone says that I must be rough on the truck this is not true, this truck has never been off road and I never try to do burn outs or anything like that, I baby the truck. Now my 03 on the otherhand spends a lot of time off road.

Of the two issues the rattle bothers me the most, I hate a rattling truck, if I had wanted that I would have bought a ___________(fill in the blank with whatever truck is not a GM), the Locker was just a matter of time so I was expecting that but if it is covered under waranty then I will get it fixed and maybe get another 50K or so out of it before an Air Locker goes in.

Mine did the same even when the cab was warm. I assume it happens more in the winter because of the bumpier roads. I removed the panel right under the steering wheel (where the brake controller is if you have one) and put some felt behind this area. Quiet as a mouse and has been since I did this after thanksgiving.

Yeah, what I am most concerned with is convincing the dealership that there is a problem with the locker since it makes no strange noises or has any vibration, it simply won't lock, all else is great, the truck shows no other symptoms, maybe they have a way of testing the G80.

Thank you, I've been chasing this rattle (vibration) for a while.

The metal plate was very loose !! and getting louder.

Silicone and foam tape and all is quiet.

You can test the locker yourself in a number of ways.

If you have a floor jack, jack one rear wheel off the ground, put the truck in drive. You will be able to drive forward or reverse if the locker is operating properly.

If you have a sturdy wall, pull the truck up touching the wall, Jack one rear wheel, put in drive and slowly accelerate. The tire on the ground will spin (as will the tire in the air) if the locker is working.

Yes, thank you for that, I have tested the locker and it has stopped engaging, I just hope that the dealer will test it as well since there are no other symptoms.
