Sierra Denali Lower Grille

I was walking to my truck in the parking lot today, admiring the beautiful front end of my ride. Gotta love the grille on the Sierra Denali. The chrome against the black bumpers just does it for me.

 

Well, imagine my shock when I saw that the lower grille area was surprisingly... black. The lower grille is completely gone. I'm going to choose to believe that somehow it worked itself loose and fell out without me noticing it, because I'd be really unhappy to think that someone helped themselves to chrome off my truck! So, if it fell off, do things have a tendency to do that? Are there weak clips or something?

 

It's a 2008 model, is it possible to get a replacement lower grille for the truck? Is there aftermarket products that might cost less than direct from the General?

Sorry to hear that and I sure hope you are right and it fell off. Is the truck still under bumper-to-bumper warranty? If so, take it to the dealer, tell them it fell off on the highway and see if they will replace it, if not eBay would most likely be your best bet. Hope it works out for you!

Unfortunately, the bumper-to-bumber has expired due to mileage.

 

Oh well, I'll go talk to the dealership, and find out how much that piece of pretty chrome is going to dent the wallet.

Well, apparenly living in Canada has it's disadvantages. Dealership quoted me $467.25 for part number 15901589. Unknown time for delivery. Seriously? $467 for a piece of chrome covered plastic?

 

So, time for plan B -> find one online, or plan C -> Find an aftermarket that looks 1/2 decent.

 

You know what's really funny? The grille isn't even functional. It's just a cover over an otherwise ugly piece of plastic.

I have no idea how that would just "fall out". I put in some black billet grills on my 08SD, and that bottom valance was a PITA. I had to cut the tabs all around that bottom chrome plastic grill. It was brutal to remove...... (Unless during assembly those tabs weren't plastic welded or something....)

Check on aftermarket grilles. You can buy the lower grill cheaper, or both for nearly the same price, than just the lower grill your dealership is screwing you for. I got curious and checked for you at SummitRacing.com. Insert your truck in the vehicle search and look at the exterior accessories. The Main Grill and Bumper Grill are listed as seperate items. Just find a Main and add the Bumper or just get a Bumper Grill that looks good. Either way you will come out cheaper or just the same. They should ship to Canada too.

I have an extra lower grill from when some a**h*** bumped me and ran. It did not have any noticeable damaged that area wasnt even hit but insurance wanted to go ahead and change it out. I talked the collision place into giving it back to me. PM me if interested in making an offer with your email address and shipping location and I will send you some pics. Mine is an 08 SD as well. I am in Texas so I am not sure of shipping cost either as it is a fairly good size box.
